HD DVD Import question

I like many others here have a HD DVD "problem", and i've noticed a few films i would love that are either from germany, netherlands (dutch) or japan. Will these have annoying subtitles on or be in another language or will they be in english?

Re: HD DVD Import question

generally speaking, most HD discs sold in, say Europe, will usually have English audio and/or subtitles. the only hiccups i've seen or run across personally are films in which the original language is something other than English or European...specifically "Hero" (German disc with Chinese & German audio only) and "Curse of the Golden Flower (La Cite Interdite)" (French disc with Chinese & French audio only). neither of those discs have English subtitles by the way.

"Ran" doesn't have English subtitles either.

Re: HD DVD Import question

also some french releases like 'renaissance', 'cities of gold' and 'les choristes' have no english. others have forced french subs even when you watch with english audio.

Plus some polish release have no english, eg arthur and invisibles and apocalypto (only polish and mayan!).

There are plenty you can get though, some of best are underworld, fantastic 4's, perfume, renaissance (all german), underworld 2 (spanish), stalingrad (french), equilibrium (jp), mr and mrs smith (polish). So visit some of the sites dedicated to this (they do make mistakes) or ask here or on the anon thread.

Set it off in Japanese then press your audio button on the remote to cycle through the options. The English soundtrack will appear.

Otherwise do what I did once, and watch the entire series of Shogun from end-to-end. I swear I could understand Japanese after that, although I can't remember whether "choose the English audio from the HD DVD menu" was one of the phrases they used in the series...
