I have the above connected by coax to my amp, would i get better sound through using the 6 analogue outputs and selecting multi in,my sony amp (str-da1200es ) doesn't do audio over hdmi

You haven't told us what Sony amp you have, but given it doesn't take audio over HDMI it may well be better to use the analogue inputs and get the XE1 to do the work. My Meridian processor doesn't take HDMI, but it will do DTS better than the XE1, but not True HD.

using analogue out you will get LPCM which is the same as TrueHD
