Burning an HD DVD to HD DVDR need help

I bought a toshiba HD DVD burner for my notebook, installed nero 7 and burned an HD DVD to HD DVDR, unfortunately it does not play in my EP30.

The HD DVD was created with Movie Factory 5, although I didn't use that to do any conversion, just compile the HD DVD structure, the files were then copied to my notebook.

In Nero 7 I chose HD DVD, let it chooses the correct format, udf 1.2 I think it used, set no multisession, selected the HVDVD_TS and ADV_OBJ files and burned.

When I put the burned disc in my EP30 it spins for a few seconds then says no disc, did I do anything wrong?

I have previously burned a DVD with HD DVD content which worked fine, so I am not a complete n00b, all I can think is that I have missed a nero setting, HD DVDR don't work in the EP30 or the media (Datawrite) isn't compatible.

Any help would be appreciated, I don't want to waste too many blanks.

I'm sure you will have a hard time finding anyone who has a HD-DVDBurner on here

Yup I thought that too, but I really don't know where else to ask, it doesn't look like many people have done this, and google is no help, I was hoping that the experts here may at least know if the EP30 can play recordable HD DVD media.

Re: Burning an HD DVD to HD DVDR need help

Well I tried burning an HD Dvd file that worked fine when written to DVD, and it still says no disc, so it must be a burning or media problem, I used UDF 2.5 this time instead of automatic, you would think burning HD DVD content to HD DVDR would be easier than burning it to DVDR, but I guess not.

Tried that on the last burn, thanks for confirming that is correct though, I'm going to upgrade the EP30 firmware next then try different media, if it doesn't work I will have to give up, or dig my xbox HD Drive out and try on that.

Re: Burning an HD DVD to HD DVDR need help

Hi,
I burned a couple with Nero and had similar problems, however if I use the burning engine in Movie Factory, the disc plays fine in my XE1 and E1. The only problem I've had with this method is the aspect ratio comes out as 4x3 even with all the options checked for 16x9. (Toshiba 902 HD DVD writer)

Using the same source files and workflow to burn a Blu works fine with the correct aspect ratio! (LG Blu Ray writer).

Puzzled!

I need to sort this out as I have got quite a few HD DVD-R discs. Burning a mini HD DVD on DVD-R media works fine in Nero. TBH, its a few months since I last tried this, I will try again over the weekend.

Re: Burning an HD DVD to HD DVDR need help

Cool, at least I'm not the only one trying, I tried different media with the same results, I'll try using movie factory to burn and see what happens. I had almost given up, and have been trying to burn h.264 content to DVD-R instead, no luck yet, mpeg 2 works fine so I'm sure there is a way.
