Toshiba HD-XA1 - Can it be made multi region?

Hi folks,

Is this a player that can be made multi region for SD DVD? And is it easy?

Thanks.

Also, I understand it's ony 1080i, but is it a good player, generally?

Thanks,

James

Re: Toshiba HD-XA1 - Can it be made multi region?

Unfortunately, the XA1 will not even play a region-free PAL DVD, so multi-region capability is fairly remote. Yes, it will only output 1080i60, but with the right TV, e.g. Pioneer Kuro, a super 1080p72 picture can be produced. And of course, it's built like the proverbial brick outhouse.

Re: Toshiba HD-XA1 - Can it be made multi region?

The Kuro will convert the 1080i 60Hz signal (60 fields) to obtain the original 24 1080p frames per second. The 24 frames are then shown three times each when the Kuro is set to PureCinema Advance mode.
