Going to buy a HD amp .. advice on setup

I'm going to replace the floor in my livingroom this summer, and want to use the opportunity to lay speakercables before the new floor comes on. As I'm new to the area of advanced audio setup for HD DVD and Blu-ray players, I want to ask you guys for advice.

I want to buy a HD amp and speakers suitable for that amp. For now it will be used with an EP10 or EP30, but I want to lay the foundation for later (I hate to say it ) Blu-ray equipment.

My first question is about 5.1 vs 7.1. What are the advantages with a 7.1 setup, and how would the speakers be placed in such a setup? Is it maybe just as good to go for a 5.1 setup?

What would my sound options be for my EP10 and EP30. What I understand from reading the threads here, at least the EP30 can provide 5.1 sound via HDMI as PCM. Can the EP10 do the same? Are there any HD DVD or Blu-ray discs with 7.1 sound, and would my HD DVD players be able to provide that sound?

At last I will ask if anyone has any recommendations for specific brands of equipment. My budget is around £2000.

If the moderators think this thread belongs in another forum, feel free to move it. I just thought as many of you guys have a HD amp with your HD DVD player, it would be a good forum to ask.

Re: Going to buy a HD amp .. advice on setup

EP10 sends Pcm also .. and both are Hdmi 1.3 ..

From the hd dvd film's i have no 7.1, not even sure thay did hd-dvd 7.1, there are some blu-rays that are 7.1 .. if you can get a good deal on 7.1 speaker setup go for it .. but if room is small go for 5.1, also in the Manuals these days they show Diagrams of speaker placement and the Sound setup in the amp sort's the sound field out I.e Audyssey etc

for high def amps go for Onkyo or a yamaha .. could do with saying max on amp and speakers ..

SAW german release has 7.1
Pans Lab US release also
Terminator 2 (German steelbook) too

Most blu ray on LIONSGATE seems to be 7.1, I know shoot em up is

The 7.1 on Pans Lab is very good indeed
