Pioneer Kuro PDP-508XD Plasma TV Review

Reviewed by Phil Hinton
The black levels are unmatched (by any other manufacturer), the colour accuracy is stunning and the dynamic range has other manufacturers scratching their heads. The 8th Generation of plasma from Pioneer is a major step in technological achievement and brings the qualities of solid blacks and accurate colours to their rightful place, the top of the pile.

Re: Pioneer Kuro PDP-508XD Kuro Plasma TV Review

Thanks for taking the time to do a review "excellent" loving my 508XD (ISF) for a year now have agree with you at these prices
they are a bargain tough choice in whether to upgrade to the 9G now,

Looking forward to your review of the 5090 any chance you can compare
the two is it worth the upgrade cost ?

Cheers

Re: Pioneer Kuro PDP-508XD Plasma TV Review

Thanks for the review, much appreciated

I had a demo of a one that was quite disappointing, I guess there must have been something wrong somewhere. Must seek another one.

I look forward to the 9G review too

Hi Phil,

Any News on the progress of the 9G review yet?....

I've got a 507 ISF'd and have and continue to enjoy this spectacular screen... but of course, reading the latest press for the 9G has made me think of looking to upgrade sometime....

All the best
Chris

Re: Pioneer Kuro PDP-508XD Plasma TV Review

Hello Phil
it is my first thread response.

I am interested in an ex demo Kuro PDP-508XD based upon your excellent reviews of Plasma screens I have read. This fits into my budget @ £1170. It has 2105 hours on the clock and one year warranty from the dealer who has used it for demo

Is it worth buying ???? Over 42 inch is plasma the best buy ???? or LCD

Thanks

Re: Pioneer Kuro PDP-508XD Plasma TV Review

Hi i have this model also since the day it came out and was wandering if it is really worth paying the extra to get a Pioneer Engineer to come out and calibrate the picture.

It looks okay and have been happy with the picture out of the box and have jst tweaked the geneal picture setting but the pro menu has to many setting to even contemplate fiddling around with not knowing their true properties.

My sources are Arcam DV-27 FMJ DVD player through Wireworld component cable and Sky HD & PS3 (gaming & Bluray films) both going through Wireworld silver HDMI cable.

So if you could recommend if it is worth the money and will see significant improvement's through having it calibirated or not?

Or is it worth the other option where there are calibrating Disc's on bluray out there that go through step by step to tweaking all the setting's yourself for a fractio of the price?

I do find it strange that when paying £2800 when new like i did you have to get an engineer out for £XXX to get the best picture out of it, why can't it come straight out the box like it in the first place? or is it a clever way of making more ££

Thank's in advance, i think i have this model or is it the 5080XD that had the extra feature's like pro collaboration.

Thank's in advance...

you'd be better off getting it calibrated than buying those daft silver hdmi cables dude. good screen. i had an early one, only the pwm noise was a minus.

"Holy Thread Resurrection Batman!"

Well not really - just a reply to this quite old hardware review.

Well Phil, your review was the reason I purchased my 508XD way back when -seems like an age ago but it was just pre 9G.

WE LOVE OUR TV - a bit sad I know to love an inanimate object but we still visit friends who have, so called, current technology that just doesn't come anywhere near.

It will take a special PDP to wrench this baby out of my cold dead hand.....................or maybe a 600M

Thanks again Phil...your a star
