Picture Stutter.Reply from Samsung

At last a reply from Lee,Online Support at Samsung UK.He says"Unfortunately we have had no confirmed date,as of yet,to a release of such software to resolve this issue. We hope to get this resolved as soon as possible"
Well at least they have admitted that there is a problem and have not tried to pretend that it does not exist!
I will contact them again in a few weeks to see what the latest position is.

Here is an interesting thread regarding this problem: it's for the North American series. Good to see for once that the UK isn't being short changed compared with the rest of the world: we're all suffering! Apparently, the problem goes back to 2007.

Samsung Auto Motion Plus not HD Compatible?

I've just spent 3 days watching my in-laws panasonic lcd with motion interpolation deliberately set to max. Hideous soap opera effect! However, not a single stutter.

As I'm on holiday, I've watched 5 blu-rays in the last day and not seen a single glitch on my le40c650. I turned off the 24hz output and sent 1080/60 instead.

1) Maybe this is related to the frame-rate problem the engineer on SAMYGO was talking about. Maybe the motion plus system is not switching off-on because of the increased frame-rate.

2) I was expecting telecine judder because of 3:2 cadence. This is true except in Custom, where it looks identical to the 24hz output, even at (0, 0). I have been using (10, 0) and (10, 2) and it has been fine.

3) I'm not saying it won't stutter, but I would expect to see at least 25/30 incidents over the course of 5 films with 24hz engaged.

4) I don't think it is the 24hz output of the ps3 that is at fault. I have used it on other peoples tvs (Sony/Panasonic) and never had a frame -skipping problem at 24 hz.

I just thought this might be useful whilst we await a fix from Samsung. Clearly, results may vary due different models/firmware, but it might be worth a shot.

I wonder if anybody could explain to me what Custom could be doing to at 60hz, 3:2 input to give a smooth output, even at (0, 0).

I'm no expert, and only joined this forum to get help when manufacturers didn't know what I was talking about!

So many thanks for listening.

Count me in the dropped frame/skipping club.
Got a 55es8000, strangley enough the 46es8000 did'nt have this awfull issue, anybody any idea's why the 46 did'nt have it but the 55 does, i would of noticed it for sure on teh 46, strange.

My honest advice to you is to get your money back and get something else.(I really do mean this)

If you read the link I gave above, you will see that this has been driving people mad for many years. You will find yourself constantly fiddling with the motion plus settings during films, thinking that just a bit more dejudder here or a bit less deblur here will cure it. It won't.

Nearly every review on the web states that Motion plus causes some 'minor skipping'. This makes it sound that it is not too bad. When you have paid a lot of money for your TV and you live with it every day, it is certainly not a minor issue, it becomes insanely distracting.

(This is not intended as a criticism of revievers at all. I'm sure I would write the same if I only lived with the problem for a short time, The fault lies squarely with Samsung)

I wish I'd returned my TV when I first got it. I didn't because of the following:

1) I thought they'd fix it.

2) I never had a blu-ray player, so just turned motion plus off as I couldn't see any benefit of it anyway with TV and DVDs.

Now that I have a blu-ray player, motion plus is, IMHO, a necessity for watching them properly, so I'm now pretty fed up, as I'm sure you can tell!

Read the above link then decide if you want to keep it or not.

Nobody even knows if it is fixable through firmware or not.

It seems extremely unlikely that if Samsung could have fixed it properly in the last few years that they wouldn't have. What would they have to lose. This makes me think that my only fix is to buy a new TV.

All the best.

As an update to the use of 1080/60.

I have since seen a few weird motion artifacts, but they are repeatable, even with clear, smooth etc. They only disappear with motion plus off, or 24 fps switched back on!

So it seems that 1080/60 elimates random skipping, at the expense of repeatable artifacts, whereas, 24fps has non-repeatable artifacts.

This seems to agree with what I've read on other forums.

Take your pick.

I personally prefer the idea of repeatable artifacts!

Good info!

In the following days after i got the 55es8000 all i was ever doing was changing the motion settings hoping motion would be better, BORING!!!

Returned for a full refund.
Over £2000 for frame skipping/judder in some scenes where there should'nt be any in 3d bluray/added input lag in 3d.

Went back to passive for zero added lag interleaved 3d gaming.

A lucky escape if I may say so!

I'll be waiting until either:

a) They fix it

or

b) I save enough money to buy a new TV.

If I put aside £1 a week, I'm very confident that b) will come first!

Unhappy Unlucky or not??

At the moment I have a Samsung ue-46ES8000 - whether I have one in a few weeks is another matter.
My television was delivered mid July and wow what a picture!!
Note: Don't watch CSI with this tv if you are eating your lunch.
Six days later a blue vertical line appears on the right hand side of the screen - what followed was the usual game of (replace me repair me) ping pong between Samsung and Comet before the tv was replaced 30th July with another one (same model).
For some reason the picture was not as good on the second tv exemplified by the ability watch CSI while eating.
Two days later a pink vertical line appears on the screen - more toward the centre this time - just finished the usual game of ping pong and now awaiting the third and FINAL Samsung.
Unlucky or have Samsung got a fundamental problem with this batch of screens?

I have sent a follow up e-mail to Samsung regarding this problem.Interestingly today I was talking to a Samsung service engineer and who said that initially Samsung were simply sending out replacement video boards to correct this issue. When they did not offer a solution Samsung said that they would look further into the problem.Apparently Samsung are very slow in correcting badly designed products.

Question UE55ES8000 Calibration Settings

Hi all

I have recently bought the above and I am told by a friend & D8000 owner that I need new calibration settings instead of the stock default settings. I am aware I can adjust settings to suit however I would like some guidance before experimenting.

Thanks

Eventually a reply from Lee at Customer Services. The issue is still being investigated.
I have replied asking how long this is going to take.

Nippy judder :-/

I have issues with juddering on this model and unfortunately am outwith the timescale for a return - although I do classify this as faulty as what's the point in having an all singing dancing tv if I can't watch what I want without wanting to bounce it out the window...... HELP! I watched the Bourne Supremacy the other day and felt disorientated with the judder.....

As you will see from my replies on this thread Samsung are aware of this issue and are working on a fix, however I have sent them a further e mail asking how much longer this is going to take.We have been exchanging e mails for a month but have not made any headway.
As I have said to Samsung to have such a basic design fault in the video processor on a top flight TV is not acceptable.

advice ?

Hi everyone - I have just spoken so someone at Samsung and they think that the refresh rate of my TV is using the American settings? now I have been offered by samsung for an Engineer to come and repair the TV........... at a month old im not really happy for this but it seems that Comet are not easy to deal with either - what to do - call Comet and ask for a replacement or wait for Samsung (albeit its a sub contractor approved by Samsung).

Thanks in advance.

I'm not sure how a UK TV can be using the "American settings" but if you do get the engineer around I'd be very interested in hearing what he says and what he does.

Hello - engineer returned my tv back to me today and told me that they did a firmware update as they said they could not find a fault with the tv...... He asked me what cables I was using and I just purchased duronic 1.4 high speed cables instead of the previous ones I got from the Sony centre for my old tv ( 5 yrs ago techlink ... I'm just about to stick the tv up on its mounts again - do you think it may be the new cables afterall? Thanks

Juddering dropping a frame Steve ..... I'm just about to hang the tv up again but I'm sure the tv would have got the most up to date firmware when I connected it to the wifi?

Well in that case, no it's got nothing to do with the cables and you're right, you probably already had the latest firmware.

I feel sorry for you, I know how it feels. As I said to mocca, read the link in post 32 then decide if you want to keep it. I'll eat my hat if they fix the problem anytime soon.

Cheers.

Quelle surprise!

I really do wonder if the time has come where this forum lets Samsung know that they unable to give any sort of recommendation to Samsung TVs until this is properly fixed (including for models no longer in production).

To me (and I suspect many others) this is not a minor issue anymore. To spend a lot of money on a flawed product is totally unacceptable. Maybe BBC Watchdog should be our next point of call (I am serious).

I implore those reviewers on here who have some contacts at Samsung to push again for a fix.
