3D Glasses Range

Thanks for the review Steve. I had one on pre-order, but got spooked by the reference in the online manual to the range of the 3D glasses. It says a maximum of 3.2m, due to the RF (Bluetooth?) connection.

I haven't been able to see one of these in the flesh yet -they are pretty thin on the ground. I spoke with the Panasonic dealer and they confirmed the stated range but said it should work out to about 5m. But their technical department wouldn't back this up. So I wondered, if you tried the 3D galsses at distances greater than this. My living room is set up so we sit approximately 4m from the screen.

It seems odd to me that Panasonic would use a 3D synchronisation system with such a short range; particularly for the larger screens, which normally go in larger rooms !

I think they are covering their arses. The general rule for anything Bluetooth is 10m. As long as there aren't any walls in the way, however I fount that anyone has a wall between them and the TV.

Jimmy is right, the range is definitely more than 3.2m and you will be fine with 4m. When I was testing the 55VT50 I went out into the kitchen at one point still wearing the glasses and I didn't lose sync.

Hello

Great review, thanks very much for this!

I have a small issue. I have recently migrated to the UAE and it seems they do not have the same model in the UAE, or at least that is what I can gather.

I don't know whether they have different model numbers in the UAE to the UK and I'm actually looking at the right one, so can you help?

On the Panasonic UAE site, they seem to have a new one - TH-P55VT50. Is this the same as the model you have reviewed?

It's page is here: Products - Viera TV - Plasma TV - TH-P55VT50
Entire UAE Panasonic plasma range: http://www.panasonic.ae/EN/Pages/Pro...ofv=Vrviz%20TV

Thanks very much.

Plasma trait. I've heard it fades as the tv is used.

Nope. In my opinion, linebleed doesn't fade with a couple of hundred hours of use.

Thanks Steve.

In your opinion, from all the TV's you have seen this year, and I know you are reviewing some at the moment from other brands, would you say this is the best one?

The VT50 is the best TV I've seen this year but I should caveat that by saying I haven't had a chance to test a Samsung plasma yet. Hopefully Mark will be getting a Samsung plasma to review very soon, so then we'll have a better idea of what they've got to offer.

I would say, that the black level of the 65VT50 is clearly better than the 64E8000 by the eye in a fully dark room. With lights on, the difference is even more visible, which means that the ambient lightfilter of Panasonic is superior to the filter that Samsung use.

As far as I know this is a European initiative that doesn't involve the UK, so I'm afraid I don't really have any info for you. I know Sony and Samsung are in the steering group but I'm not sure about Panasonic.

Thanks pansasonic . . .Finally a t.v worth buying (I hope fingers crossed) after following the sony 923 thread many problems and really wanted a lcd/led because of plasma being old tech and power cosumption . But after looking at display at currys using 3 same brand/size t.v,s different techs , the plasma looks most natural as this box having 0.0001 m/s response time is awsome

according to your reviews, the input lag from his screen is 50ms (the old one said 24ms).
the HX853 had an input lag of 43MS according to your measurements.

Are both sets therefore not great for gaming?

I heard panasonic plasmas were great before..

We've had input lag measurements of between 25 and 50ms on the GT50/VT50 but Mark measured 43ms using his more accurate input lag measuring device, so I think around 40ms would be the best number to use. As you point out, Mark also measured the HX853 at 43ms using his input lag measuring device, so it looks like a lot of TVs are coming in at around this number.

Whether you would notice a lag of 40ms will depend on how much gaming you do but whilst you might find a TV with a lower lag you won't find one with a better picture than the GT50/VT50, so I guess it depends on what is most important to you.

There are reviews of all three here on AVForums, however if it was my choice I would go for the P65VT30. Partly because I have a preference for plasma but also because I don't like the poor blacks and uneven backlights on LED LCD TVs.

Many Thanks Steve,

I will take your advise, i must admit the colours do seem more natural on the Plasma ...

Just more more question , any suggestions on what home cinema system you would go for along with 3D Blu ray player ?

Regards

I'm afraid I haven't seen enough cinema systems to really comment, it really depends on what you want (2.1, 5.1, 7.1) and how much you're prepared to spend.

As far as Blu-ray players go, they all the same with a 24p BD disc, so once again it largely depends on what else you want out of the player and again, how much you're prepared to spend.

Personally I love the Oppo BDP93, it's a great performer with good design, good build quality and good support.

I would definitely recommend augmenting the sound of your VT50 with some form of home cinema system.

However what you buy will depend on your viewing environment and how tolerant you (or your partner) are of speakers being all over the room.

I've got some 2.1 systems from Samsung and LG in for review right now and hopefully we'll be looking at a lot more all-in-one systems going forward.

Thumbs down My input to Panasonic: Keep the input lag for gamers at <30ms.

I almost ordered this TV, i loved it on all aspects o read and waited for more reviews to see the input lag numbers.
there no other option right now for me and i will wait till i find a 3D TV with less than 30ms input lag.
contrary to what is written here, 50ms is a huge delay on shooters.
I know it sounds too.... at first i also thought so.
but in reality that "20ms" difference makes the diff.

I liked that set before i saw it then was unimpressed with the 3D. It had a lot of blur and sound was slightly tinny.

Then i watched same thing on VT50 and it had sharp 3D.

I saw the 8000 again other day in Comet and was initially like wow ! But sadly then i noticed the horrid flesh tones and over saturated colours.

Well, I finally buckled and paid the extra $200 to pay for the 55" since the 50" is not available here in the US. Just reading at the review, I see that the UK version comes with 2 pairs of 3D glasses! I thought a brand's flagship model should come with them but it's quite disappointing that the US version doesn't come with one, let alone two pairs. Those specks cost $50 a pop!

That's unusual, it's normally the other way around

Hi Steve,

I am looking to buy a 3 TV's for my home. One 50-55 inch and two 42inches.

I really liked your review for this but sadly in India VT series only offered in 65 inches.. The other TV I am considering is Samsung 55ES8000 which is available here.

I will atleast be keeping them for 5-7 years. What would you recommend?

Reference badge in over three years?

Hello Steve, What was the TV over 3 years ago that held the reference status? Am I correct in thinking this was the Kuro?
