Good luck.

Incidentally has anyone suffered any lock-ups on their TV. I have had to power off the mains on about 3 occasions due to it freezing?
Not happened on mine as yet. Did it happen before you did the firmware update?

Yup, TV is awesome.
I'm not really qualified in the picture testing department. I do consider myself to have a good eye for detail, but i don't see anything that looks remotely like banding or any other issues. I haven't tried the 3D yet as i didn't get it for that. As far as i'm concerned the picture is perfect.

If there is any recomended ways of testing/checking the picture or help with setup i would willingingly have a play and see what results i get.

No picture freeze yet..........

Well I updated the firmware the day after I bought it so I didn't really have chance to see if the glitches occurred with the old software.

It's probably my fault I have been in and out the settings a hell of a lot since I bought the set and I think I may have just upset it on the odd occasion.

The first glitch I had was when I was watching SBS YouTube videos, I was meddling with the 3D settings for about an hour. When I finally exited the interface to go back to regular TV it displayed a small picture on the left of the panel (about 26" in size) instead of filling the entire screen. No matter what I tried I couldn't get it to go full screen.
The second glitch was when I happened to glance up at the screen and noticed that the info bars that appear briefly when you change channel were still being displayed, I pressed the appropriate exit button to no avail, in fact it would't do anything, not even change channel.
Anyway these minor glitches were cured by simply disconnecting the power and turning it back on again.

It's been fine since but I will keep an eye on it.

Am seriously interested in this set, but not sure whether to go for the 46 or the 55 model. My seating position is 12 foot from the screen, which won't be wall mounted. Can I ask you guys who have got the 55 how far away you sit from the screen, Cheers

Depending on where I sit in my lounge it varies between 12ft-16ft, the screen never looks overpowering, just right.

Right I want this TV, the tasty 55 incher seems best to go for.

Sadly I want a 5 years cover to go with it and Amazon.co.uk is cheapest still at £1200, But has no cover unless you pay another £250+ more.
I wish John Lewis sold it.
Does anyone know where you can get it at a good price with 5 years cover?

I have found the Toshiba site gives you 5 Years warranty if you register, but only if bought at certain places. Sadly I cannot see where these places are! as I have no internet at the moment, just a phone.

https://www.toshibaregistrations.com...ranty/tscs.asp

Still that may help some of you hopefully, as 5 years cover is needed in my eyes for any screen.

Still I want the TV now really, but so few places sell it - I guess stores have it in for Toshiba and just dont sell this screen a fraction as much as other makes.

Glad you like it and you`ve done well to have no banding. Ours is only noticeable on the football, but I`m learning to ignore it as is very slight & is not as bad as the Samsung.

Settings wise, I haven`t found any recommended settings on the web , but just played about on it for 20 min & am very happy with the end result.

As you said, you probably just threw it out as you were going in & out of settings. Thanks for that as I`ll do the update now as not that by the sound of it.

110% go for the 55 inch set, always go bigger if you can & it`s an awesome set & incredible value. You won`t regret it I promise you.

I totally agree with the John Lewis point as they give such peace of mind. Did see that PRC direct had a free 5 year warranty but that had do be done in store ? whatever that means? Looked on the Toshiba website & doesn`t list as far as I can see the participating dealers.

Maybe the Amazon route with separate warranty is the best way to go as is still very good value.

Has anyone got their units wall mounted? Looking at getting mine done, but there's nothing on the Toshiba site or literatue I could spot about adequate ventilation to the rear of the unit.

One of the 2 brackets are 5mm clearance, so wanted to be sure before ordering!

On another note, even with the latest update, Wi-fi is showing weak signal though router is very nearby. Has anyone heard anything official from Toshiba about this problem?

It is a shame Toshiba dont list clear where you have to buy to get the free warrenty - if you have to search then really their site has failed badly!

As you say Amazon may be the way to go in the end for me. May hang on for a little linger and wait for another price drop.

I guess all my searching has this screen top of the pile at the moment, its just a shame so few places sell it or even display it in a store. Just wanted to see in real life how the screen looks etc.. I dont like reflective, but I watch all films in the black dark so really it will never spoil my cinema experience. I sit 7.5 foot away at the moment, but will move closer for a quality looking Blu Ray thats for sure.

I take it the stand has no movement at all in it?

My TV says the same thing even though it's only 9 or 10 meters away. It doesn't bother me I rarely use the online features anyway.
I doubt this will be cured by firmware though, I would imagine signal strength is more hardware than software.

Wall mounted ours last night with a £15 kit got off Amazon. Really impressed & easy to do, not getting hot & makes the set look a very impressive piece of kit for silly £.

Same here on the weak wireless message despite having a very strong wireless signal.

The 5 year warranty offer seems very reluctantly given if there website is to go by. I think you can rotate the stand a bit but no more.

Spoke to Toshiba and...

1. TV can be mounted flush
2. Wi-fi is known to be weak, and not to the level of other normal network devices. However it is still within "normal" parameters. Apparently they expect the router is in the same room (their words, not mine)

Oops... also, the reason Amazon and a few companies are so cheap is that they handle warranty issues directly instead of via Toshiba

Call me thick :D but what exactly does that mean in reality?
that Amazon etc.. are not applicable for any 5 Year Warrenty on a Toshiba TV and are using their own method of charging extra for cover?

and good to see you talked to Toshiba about it, never thought of that haha

Took the plunge and purchased the 55 from Amazon monday, arrived yesterday and all seems well, autotuned to freeview HD channels no probs, excellant picture and haven't played around with the settings much yet, also updated firmware from internet connection. Would have thought for what is undoubtedly a premium product Toshiba could have issued a printed copy of the 86 page extended manual, available to download from their website, instead of the rather basic flimsy manual supplied.

Just one question at the moment, anyone know what the 4 polished black washers with adhesive backing are for?

Wow weird, i just decided to go down the wall mount route and checked back in to see if anyone had done it yet and bam there you are with your post.

Could you give me the link to the bracket you used? Does it feel sturdy, any alignment problems with the mountings etc?

Actually just checked out the manual and it doesn't even give you any guidance on hole mountings are length of studs etc. Did you use the same mountings as the stand uses?

Just ordered a pair, thanks.
I had to send one of my other pair of specs back to John Lewis as they weren't quite working properly.

Sorry mate, I`ve stopped getting notifications on this thread for some reason & only just read last few posts...

Wall mount link HD Zone's Ultra Slim Wall Mount Bracket System for: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics

Very simple to put up, just removed the 4 screws at back of tv replacing with 4 mounting parts in the kit (I used the longer screws as the kit includes 2 lengths of screw). Drilled 2 holes in the wall & fixed the 2 kit points to the wall & then hang the TV up just like a picture.

Took me about an hour and is very secure & looks great.

Big jump on the price eh ?! Doesn`t surprise me although it may also come down again, as said the set was incredible VFM. Good buy all !!!

Is totally secure and relieved that won't now topple over on to our young kids. Go for it as if it breaks you can always replace it with the silver one on your house insurance.
