Microsoft is investigating how the copies went on sale

Games getting released early ahead of their street date continues to be a major problem for publishers these days, but in the console world of today (because of online gaming) it is much easier to see where these games are leaking early if people are dumb enough to play them early online.

Reports from our sources indicate that Microsoft has launched a full scale investigate into copies of Halo 3: ODST that have leaked out and gone out for sale on French retail store shelves far ahead of the street date. As one can imagine, Microsoft isn’t happy about the situation.

From what we hear, a problem at the actual distribution center might be to blame, as Microsoft is describing the number of copies that are in the wild as small in number. Xbox Live accounts for users playing the game early online are being investigated and Microsoft is promising to take action against any user playing ODST early on Xbox Live by saying that the user might be banned from Xbox Live.

Microsoft seems to mean business. ODST is one of the biggest releases of the season, and having an issue like this so far ahead of the release is a big problem for the company that could give the launch a black eye. Our sources claim that Microsoft is going to take action, but no one is sure what kind of action they might take.

What we can say is that we suggest that you always steer clear of buying a title before the street date. While it might seem like a good idea at the time, it could create more problems than it is worth over the long haul.

Thats utter rubbish that how can they ban someone if a store accidently sold a copy paying customer as long as the game is a retail copy and not a verbatim edition i cant see how they can ban people scare tactics if you ask me

This game rocks on the third level now very clever making you a trooper instead of master chief just like being in the army controls are just like halo3 looks stunning as well

What is the difference from an import to a leak ?

Surely its the same as importing Ghostbusters

I know Sony feel that imports are illegal because it breaches their IP and Copyright, but I doubt they could find a judge outside of Texas to rule in their favour.

I think what it is meant by a leak is that as soon as a game is leaked it gets on the internet and its then freely available to those with special consoles rather than people purchasing it in a shop.

Ms have said if you buy a retail copy no probs enjoy it if its the verbatim edition then the Ban Hammer will fall

Hypothetically, if you were given a chance to play it now, a legit copy, in French, would you?

I most certainly would but that would be because my French is passable, and the language in a Halo game has little bearing on the experience, IMHO.

For the cost of a disk for a quick play maybe worth it for some there is always listening to some tunes whilst watching the subs or a bit of platoon/top gun
