Will Microsoft take good care of the Halo License?

With all the new Halo products coming our way, ODST, Reach, Anime, Waypoint, etc, it feels a little like MS is milking the Halo franchise for all its worth and then some, i have to admit im a little uneasy about how they are pimping it out at every opportunity.

What are people thoughts will MS take good care of Halo or run it into the ground.

Re: Will Microsoft take good care of Halo License?

The thing to remember about Halo is that it has such a dedicated fanbase, that people actually want all this stuff. More books, comics, merchandise, new anime - anything that expands on the Halo canon is going to be lapped up, and gladly. In my opinion, the only thing that truly destroy the franchise is a bad game. However, with Bungie at the helm of ODST and Reach, let's not panic just yet. I think we'll be all right for this generation.

Time will tell if M$ destroy Halo for the next generation of consoles, as the Halo licence will be given to a different developer. I can't imagine future games quite having the same authoritative stamp as Bungie's lovingly crafted games, so there's always a risk, but the series needs to move forwards as well, so perhaps it will evolve as it should without Bungie.

Its not the Halo license its more the Bungie license that I will follow. Its not the story, or the characters that make Halo its the gameplay and the support from Bungie. Whatever else they decide to create I will be first in line to buy it and will put my left nut on the fact that its going to be awesome.

That's what's good about the licence as far as you're concerned - and, for that matter, me. Bungie are great developers who are masters of expertly crafted gameplay.

However, I know people who love the Halo universe because of the story and characters. One of my mates is an absolute Halo nut, but he's not even online - his reasons for enjoying Halo are completely different to yours or mine. This is why the new Halo stuff (Legends, new novels, etc) will be of huge interest to him but isn't particularly of interest to me.

As I said, though, I don't think anything will matter until the next generation anyway. I could be wrong, but I'm not sure we'll see another Halo title on this platform. It's the games that matter most of all.

I can't wait to see what else Bungie is working on - the company has already said it's working on a brand new top-secret IP. I also want more Reach info!
