Questioning input lag for Halo 3?
Ladies and Gentlemen,
I am very new to the flat screen tv bandwagon. I will be purchasing my first LCD or Plasma tv shortly and I have not been able to find anything to help with my one major concern.
I currently operate a toshiba H84 rear projection tv at 1080i resolution. The tv is 57 inches. This tv has no input lag with my xbox 360.
I would like a similar size tv in either plasma or lcd. I need input on a tv that has next to nothing when it comes to input lag with my xbox 360. I am a professional Halo 3 player as well as Guitar Hero but every tv I have tried has a significant lag where it effects play to a degree where I will not be competetive. But my main concern is Halo 3 and the lag I have noticed.
If someone gives me some good advice, I will gladly help them reach level 50.
Any suggestions on a tv that would be good for gaming?
As always, I very much appreciate the help!
Ian

Re: Questioning input lag for Halo 3?
I have a Toshiba LCD and don't get any input lag at all. Very good TV and HAlo 3 looks awesome on it - very bright. Go for something with a quick response time. Should be listed in the specs for the TV.
If you can get yourself down to a decent Home Cinema shop (i.e. not comet) they should let you try Halo on it before you purchase
Can I have my 50 now

Re: Questioning input lag for Halo 3?
I have been to many different shops and at least for my level of gaming, I need precision.
I guess I am wierd like that but thank you very much for the input.
I am trying to get 50 inches or bigger.
One more question.
How do you link your gamertag to this forum?
You can send me a friend request if you like. Just shoot me a message or a post so I know to accept it via the forum.
Bandos is No 1
That is my gamertage

Re: Questioning input lag for Halo 3?
You wont get a LCD 50" or bigger...well not at a cheap price.
Plasma offer greater response time's, Panasonic all the way.
To add you gamertag go to control panel> edit your details then at the bottom it will say "xBox Live Gamer Tag"

Re: Questioning input lag for Halo 3?
When I was buying my LCD about 2 years ago, one of the key factors I was looking for was a fast response time. At the time my Sharp 32" LCD was one of the leaders in this category.....I think it was 6ms, which has probably been bettered technology wise since.
I noticed the other day that you can get a Sony LCD with 200hz, so that should also help with smooth (accurate) motion....
My 2p worth.......now, about that 50

Lcd's are still around the 4ms mark for response time. Most Panasonic plasma are 0.001seconds response time.
Panasonic is a must if you want fast response time, get one of the new 600hz

If I go with a plasma, am I still going to have burn in issues?
Thanks for the help in linking my gamertag.

Money isn't really an option. I am in Kuwait now so saving is easy. Don't really have anything to spend it on over here.

Burn in issues are a thing of the past. They are not a concern anymore. At the start of plasma technology it was an issue but technology has advanced over the years and its not really an issue.
You could say the same about LCD; Am i going to get dead pixels?

Re: Questioning input lag for Halo 3?
If burn in isn't a problem anymore, why on earth would anyone by an LCD because contrast ratio and motion is much better on plasma?
I very much appreciate everyone's input and help on the matter.

1) Personal choice, LCD's dominate the market from small screen sizes up to about 32-40"
2) Cheaper to produce at them sizes, so cheaper to purchase for customers. You wont see many good plasmas for around the <£500 mark

Excellent question - I'm starting to get upgrade-itis having owned my 32" LCD for about two years now. Would love something nearer 40", and was always under the impression that the PQ on a plasma was 'better'......seeing as burn in appears to have been addressed, I can't see the reason to buy an LCD over a plasma....very interesting.

Re: Questioning input lag for Halo 3?
I use a cheap Hannspree 37" LCD and get no input lag on either Halo or Guitar Hero/Rock Band I've gamed on a plasma too though and it definitely looked better (although I think the tech in newer LCD's is closing the gap now)
I'm no expert in these things but isn't input lag caused by the tv processing the picture it receives before it displays it? Try for a TV with minimal fancy effects (eg 100hz/ motionflow etc). Also most tv's don't process any input from the vga socket, you could use that on your tv of choice for the best results.
The above might be a load of , but I think that's how things work your best bet would be as EEC3 says, try to get to a decent shop and test any prospective tv's yourself.
Now about that 50, I'm not a greedy man. A 45 would do me
