HP w2207H
Sadly my HP w2207 just died after only 6 months and I now find it has been replaced by a new model w2207H - main difference I can see is HDMI (hence the "H"). I now am not sure what to do - go for this or the Samsung 226CW which hadn't come out when I bought my HP and there was just the 226BW panel lottery! Having looked at the 226CW all I can say is that I was not impressed with the build quality compared to the HP especially the stand. Does anyone know anything about the new HP? is it improved in any other way other than the HDMI? - also as my graphics card is DVI so can I connect it easily with a dual cable? BTW got a refund on my faulty HP. Thanks.

HP kept saying they had no stock and couldn't give date for swap-out. I now know why as this H model is replacement. Comet also said they had no stock - nobody had the sense to see why, and I had no idea about the new model coming out. Comet finally agreed today to give me a refund - it is ironical that the whole time they have had the H model in stock! HP have not impressed me as their overseas call centre is a nightmare to deal with and Comet did not seem to accept that they were legally responsible until many phone calls and threats. However I loved the HP and feel that it was bad luck that mine failed just as they changed the model specs. I would be prepared take a chance with the new one even if I don't get it from Comet (perhaps John Lewis). Also I feel I can't ignore the Samsung!

Re: HP w2207H
Blimey, that didn't last long. I remember you bought yours just before I bought my 226BW. I haven't heard much about the new HP w2207H, but personally if something broke down that quickly I would normally go with a different option if I had a choice.
The ViewSonic VX2255wmb is meant to be quite good if you are looking for new.

Re: HP w2207H
Too late Tejstar! Just got back with replacement 2207H. I was very close to getting either a Samsung 226CW or Viewsonic VX2255wmb, but both seemed so plasticky in construction compared to the HP (especially the Samsung with no adjustment whatsoever). I was always so pleased with the HP and feel maybe I was unlucky (power just failed), so have decided to give it another chance. Having set it up (after using an old 15 inch CRT for 3 weeks!) I feel like an old friend is back. I had to get an HDMI to DVI cable but the image is stunning out the box - my wife even commented that it seemed better - not sure if it's a coincidence or whether other improvements have been made. Just have to keep fingers crossed as to reliability!

Re: HP w2207H
HP w2207H, picked it up a couple weeks ago, was so impressed, picked up another just this week. I think they are outstanding, I was looking at the samsung peeble, the apparent backlight references put me off

Re: HP w2207H
I am thinking of getting one from PCW at just £199, are you guy's still happy with your purchase?
I was looking at the Samsung 2232BW but the bleeding I saw was significant.
I want to go for the HDMI version as it keep the usage options open. How does it cope with Sky HD input?

Re: HP w2207H
Im new here, but i was comparing them both as well. The samsung pebble was the one that i was set on, until i went and compared it face to face with the HP W2207H. This was 200 times better, the quality was crystal clear and it was Cheaper, the height adjustable stand and rotation of screen is ideal, better than the wobbly samsung which just wobbled continuously with the slightest vibration. £199, plus i would get it from John Lewis, better on the warranty side.
All in all by the W2207H!!!

Re: HP w2207H
A couple of questions:
1. What HDMI version does the W2207H use?
2. Has anyone hooked up a PlayStation 3 console to the monitor via HDMI? If so, how is it working out? What is your setup, upscaled 720p or downscaled 1080p? Does the W2207H even accept 1080p input?
Thanks!

Re: HP w2207H
Hi Phil,
I have a w2207 which I purchased from John Lewis back in May, it went pop a couple of days ago, no power getting to monitor at all. I see you had a problem with HP not being able to replace or fix your w2207 as they had no warranty replacements in stock, I was wondering what options HP gave you, i.e. swap for a w2207h or wait for w2207 to come in stock? I guess from what you have said previously I will end up having to take this up with John Lewis if HP don't come up with a solution.
P.S. I use a DVI cable connected to my ATI card at the moment do you know if I end up with a w2207h will the HDMI cable supplied connect to my ATI card?
Cheers
Nick

Re: HP w2207H
Im considering buying the HP W2207H but just need some advice,
I was looking at this monitor in staples today, there display monitor was a w2207 non H model which is what I wanted to buy as it has dvi and vga.
After seeking out a sales advisor to buy one I noticed that the ones underneath the display were all boxed up as the H model after a conversation with the sales guy he said it was the same as the one on display, I wasnt convinced and said are you 100% certain as I thought the H meant hdmi he was still convinced it was the same, was about to buy it and noticed on the side of the box there was a sticker saying hdmi cable included.....hmmm thats one hell of a clue lol after opening the box and inspecting it he wasnt happy that his product knowledge had failed him somewhat....lol what a numpty....
I left bemused that they wouldnt even discount a display non H model that had no box or leads.....
So back to the drawing board, I really wanted this monitor in non H guise as it would suit my needs for running my PC in DVI and xbox 360 in VGA.
would it be possible to get some sort of adaptor so I could run the PC with a dvi/hdmi setup and the 360 on vga?
Im not sure what to buy regards a hdmi/dvi adaptor or even if its possible can anyone point me in the right direction?
TIA
Nick

Re: HP w2207H
To answer my own questions I bought the HP W2207h today and its brilliant
I bought a dvi male/hdmi female convertor to plug in to my graphics card which means I can use the hdmi lead supplied for the pc and Im using the vga for the xbox 360.
anyone thinking about this monitor to run there pc and 360 on my advice is do it the PC and the 360 look brilliant.
I have no ghosting or colour problems on games and the monitor feels like its a quality item and not some cheaply made plasticky affair.
Well done HP for making a brilliant all round dual purpose monitor.
I really cant fault it, and im a very fussy bugger (just ask the wife)

Re: HP w2207H
Evening,
I was looking for a 22" monitor that I could hook up my 360 to via hdmi and this looks like it fits the bill nicely.
Just wondered if anyone here has tried a 360 using hdmi and could give me some impressions please? Also can the monitor handle a 1080p signal (I appreciate the native res is less)?
I did a search on google and the only mention of it being used with a 360 was someone who couldn't hook it up via hdmi.....I'm hoping it was down to 'human error' rather than an inherent problem.....
Thanks in advance!

I bought a w2207h a couple of weeks ago, it didn't work in portrait mode with my motherboard's built-in graphics, so I bought a new ATI graphics card that has an on-board HDMI socket. Every time the graphics card switches into a high resolution mode while connected to the monitor via HDMI, the monitor fuse blows! (Obviously the first time this happened I assumed the monitor had been killed - luckily I had some spare fuses in the house and tried replacing the fuse in the plug.)
I'm not sure if the card or the monitor is faulty - my intuition at the moment is that the ATI card (Sapphire Radeon HD 2400 Pro) regards the HDMI port as for TVs only, is ignoring the monitor settings and sending out 1080p (which the monitor can't handle) and that when the DVI-to-hdmi cable I've ordered arrives, the monitor may be able to get a digital signal from the DVI output of the card. (At the moment I'm using the monitors VGA connection with a DVI-to-VGA dongle at the card end, however I think the dongle is the cause of interference which is giving me wavy lines on the screen.)
Having said that, I thought HDMI equipment was supposed to be able to communicate with each other to set the right resolution. When I look in the ATI control software, I noticed that it seemed to think the the monitor was advertising itself as capable of a resolution and refresh rate far higher than the manual specifies, so I overrode the setting for maximum signal with 1680x1050 at 60Hz, but the monitor still blew a fuse when I booted with the HDMI cable connected. (If my intuiton is right, the card may be ignoring the "monitor" settings because it has detected a "TV" for which it has no settings yet, and is sending what it likes to the "TV".)
