Can you recommend a cheap AGP card?

Hi guys,

I'm after an AGP graphics card for a low-budget media centre PC I'm putting together. It is quite an old system with an Intel Celeron 478 2.8Ghz and 512mb RAM. Sadly, my motherboard doesn't have a PCI-E, and I'm not gonna upgrade, so I need an AGP Graphics card with a TV Out. I want to be able to play full-screen video comfortably, but am not fussed about HD. Although I would be interested to know how much more I would need to pay to be able to handle HD.

Are there particular chips that are good for media center stuff? I will not be using the computer for anything other than watching videos and playing iTunes.

Thanks,

Jon

You haven't said how much you want to spend, however you could look at the AGP versions of the X1650Pro and GeForce 7600 GS. You'll find the AGP versions may be quite pricey though.

You may want to wait for the AGP version of the 2400Pro is the prices of the above cards are too expensive.

Cost isn't really a factor as all these cards are under £100 but I may need to drop down from the X1950 due to its power demands and I only have 28 amps on the 12v rail.
However, as stated in the other thread, this monitor may be going back as the white balance is all wrong and up to now I haven't been able to fix it.

I think you might like the Nvidia 6200A. That's what I am buying, and it can handle HD as well. Plus it's silent, because it doesn't have a fan.

Well maybe the 8600GT may be the better option then, or if you're looking to save even more, maybe the GeForce 7300GT?
