New PC - New graphics card

I'm looking at getting a Dell Studio Hybrid PC in the new year. This comes with an Integrated Intel® Graphic Media Accelerator 3100 graphics card. I don't think it can be upgraded either so I'd be stuck with it.

My current card in my Dell Dimension 5150c is a 128mb ATI Radeon X600 SE Graphics Card.

Is the new card much of an upgrade over the old one???

Re: New PC - New graphics card

Your previous ATI card is much better. Integrated graphics tend to suck, but at least with integrated graphics you have a backup if your main graphics card fails.

The 3100 also has trouble with custom resolutions but can output standard HD resolutions.

It's fine if you are just web browsing or playing light games such as The Sims but if you want to do any serious work like video editing or play serious games (Bioshock, Crysis etc) then just make sure your new Desktop has a PCI-E slot so you can upgrade in the future if needs be

Re: New PC - New graphics card

Those Dells look to be a pretty web surfing PC. All performance and upgradability sacrificed for a small form factor and a shapely case. Hope there cheap because with that level of hardware you can buy a laptop for £300 or less.
