This could be due to my tuner card configuration - I was greedy and put 2 x 7010's in so I could have 4xDVB-T. I'm going to try with just the 1 to see if that improves tings.

I disabled one of the tuners and ran another scan but it's still taking 6 seconds to change channel from BBC2 to ITV1. Any ideas what cold be causing this? I don't get this with Vista.

Re: Pinnacle 7010i PCIe Dual DVB-T / DVB-S/ Analogue

I have run Windows 7 since the first beta release (now on RC 7100) and have had slow channel changes (up to 10 s) most of the time, but sometimes it's nearly instant.

I'm only using the 2 x DVBT tuners - when everything is stable, I'll ditch our Sky box & TiVo and use the 2 x DVBS as well.

Mine is a new HTPC so have never tried Vista, but if it doesn't happen with Vista, that must indicate it's a Win 7 problem?

Dave.

Re: Pinnacle 7010i PCIe Dual DVB-T / DVB-S/ Analogue

It could be the way 7MC scans for channels as in Vista you selected from a list of detected transmitters which one should be used - in 7MC it does a full transmitter scan automatically and takes ages to do this part - over 30 minutes. Then it does the channel scan.

The other thing it could be is the drivers.

I've managed to grab one of these cards. Which drivers are the best to use under Windows 7? The one from Windows update or the BlackGold 3540 drivers?

So far i have found that my Cinergy 2400iDT card doesn't like living next to the Pinnacle, it's tuners keep failing. More testing needed I think.

I did try the Blackgold drivers, but Win7 said that the default ones were more up to date. They might have posted newer ones since as this was a month or so ago.

I have only used the default Windows 7 drivers, and had few problems. Channel switching is quick (1-2 sec max) with 4 tuners configured.

The only problem I have had was for some reason a couple of days ago, it kept giving me messages that there is not tv signal and couldn't record the program, but it was actually recording it. It was really annoying as it kept interrupting my viewing on my DMA 2200 extender to inform me. I just resetup the tv signals, and so far it is behaving again.

Cheers

Re: Pinnacle 7010i PCIe Dual DVB-T / DVB-S/ Analogue

When using the satellite part of the card, are the digital text and 'red button' services working? All i get when I press teletext, is an old style text page telling me to use digital text.

I have found that changing satellite channel only takes 1 or 2 seconds, but terrestrial can take 6 or 7 seconds at times, but not always.

That's strange - I know I get the "Red Button" Services but haven't tried Teletext. Drivers?

So you have red button service on the satellite channels? I found a registry setting that is supposed to enable mheg services on dvb-s, but it doesn't seem to work. I get digital text only on BBC-HD strangely, and if I select 'Sport Multiscreen', i get a channel off air message.

Other than this issue, my 7010ix has been rock solid. I need a second card now for 4x dvb-s ;-)

I'm using the driver Windows 7 download by the way.

[edit], Multiscreen works now (?), but no other mheg services except on bbc-hd.

Re: Pinnacle 7010i PCIe Dual DVB-T / DVB-S/ Analogue

Done some real testing and I can now say that the drivers for this card under Windows 7 are far from perfect. DVB-T channel changes can take several seconds, DVB-S seems faster. Occaisional channel changes result in a picture but no audio. Worst though, is that I have had a number of BSODs when changing DVB-T channels.

So, I am now running the Blackgold 3540 drivers. So far the functionality is the same. Still no MHEG on DVB-S. Channel changes still taking far too long and sometimes no audio. So far though, I have had no BSODs so i'll stick with the BG drivers.

Hi Chaps,

Sorry to hear that your channel changing is slow, mine takes about 2seconds maximum, but I have combined the channels so that it always defaults to DVB-S.

I have never had a BSOD yet on windows 7, so I can't explain why you have had issues.

The one issue I do get is when recording 2 channels at the same time and watching a third, it keeps popping up with error messages saying no "tv signal cannot record .....", however it is actually recording it fine ?

This isn't really a problem on the PC as the message box is just on the task bar, but my extender is annoying as it is a huge box plastered across the screen.

Have you noticed if this has happened for yourself?

Cheers

Sorry, never had this myself (yet). I have reordered the tuner priority for the main channels so that DVB-T is used first. I agree with you that channel changing on DVB-S is much faster.

Another problem I have noticed is that occaisionally when changing channel, I get a black screen. If I press 'play' on the remote the time bar is whizzing forward at about 4x, untill it is a minute or two in the future! If I press << to get back to the present, i'll get a picture?!

Can you access mheg services on dvb-s?

Hi Chaps,

I am not sure what mheg services are, I will take a guess at the red button. Jst tried it, and the coloured buttons only seem to appear on BBC and the pressing the red button doesn't do anything ? Trying the red button on the TV works, so no idea why it doesn't work in media centre. To be fair, I never tried this under VMC, so I can't compare.

Cheers

Re: Pinnacle 7010i PCIe Dual DVB-T / DVB-S/ Analogue

Hi there all.

I picked up one of these cards some while ago from BigPockets I think it was. The website stated that while was on oem card, it was meant to come with a software disk and cable. When the card turned up it was minus both of these. I meant to contact them to request the missing parts or a replacement card, but didn't get round to it in time. When I looked at their site again they'd sold out. I guess you guys bought them all.

Anyway what I was wondering was:can someone tell me what is on the disk, and has anyone got a link where I can download the missing software?

Failing that would one of you great people be willing to do me a copy of your disk and post it to me (am of course willing to pay for the disk and postage). Alternatively, if the software's only a couple of megs, would you be willing to email it to me?

Many thanks you great people (am I grovelling enough?)

Re: Pinnacle 7010i PCIe Dual DVB-T / DVB-S/ Analogue

Did anyone ever get to the bottom of the card dissapearing from device manager in windows XP & Vista for that matter ?
I have had it happening on both xp and vista using MP and MCE, its obviously something to do with the pcie slot/card not initialising from standby or turnon occasionally. I'm using the pinnacle driver
Only way to get it back once this happens is remove power from pc for 10 secs

The disk I got only contained CyberLinks PowerCinema v5. So I don't think you are missing much, but if you really want it I could post you it (original disk with serial), as I will only put it in a drawer never to be seen again.

Re: Pinnacle 7010i PCIe Dual DVB-T / DVB-S/ Analogue

I have managed to get a second card from Ebay now. Anyone in the UK wanting one of these should check ebay.de from time to time. I managed to grab 2 cards from here, one for about £22 (used) and one for about £36 (new) plus delivery. When they appear on ebay UK the tend to sell for silly money!

With Windows 7 (7127 build), using the drivers dated 20.02.09, I have got all 8 tuners working fine. No BSODs. No dissapearing from the device manager after standby. Channel changes sometimes are almost instant, but sometimes can take up to 7 or 8 seconds which is no big deal.

All I am missing is mheg on dvb-s, which I am not sure works in Windows 7 due to the different mheg specs between DVB-T and S.

Re: Pinnacle 7010i PCIe Dual DVB-T / DVB-S/ Analogue

Hi Chaps, thanks for the reply. I gave up checking this thread for a while, as there didn't seem to be any activity.

If you really don't want the disk, I'd really appreciate it. Please pm me to let me know you're still willing to let it go, and I send you my details.

Out of interest did you buy the bare card, or did it come with it's accessories? As I said mine was meant to come with the breakout cable too, but didn't. If you've got spare accessories that are likely to end up in the same draw, and would be interested in selling them please let me know. If the price is right, maybe we can do a deal.

Thanks so much for your kindness it's really appreciated.

Dave

as stated on your other thread, you need a sat dish, old sky one is fine.

good thing with this card its still got twin dvb-t tuners so you can use it for terrestrial freeview until you get access to a dish sorted.

Re: Pinnacle 7010i PCIe Dual DVB-T / DVB-S/ Analogue

Hi, Could anyone give me the dimensions of the Pinnacle 7010ix card please? I'm thinking of buying one, probably on ebay, but I need to check whether they will fit in the Lian Li PC-c36B case I intend to buy. There isn't much room in the case. It will take a full height card using a supplied riser but I'm concerned about the amount of space where the card will fit. Here's a photo (from a Big Bruin review) showing a MSI GeForce 8500GT and it's very close to the DVD drive.
Thanks

Re: Pinnacle 7010i PCIe Dual DVB-T / DVB-S/ Analogue

Anyone using this card able to view Sky News or CNN, these channels appear blank with no sound on mine.

I have a skystar2 card in the same PC and these channels are viewable. To get round this issue I'm tell dvbviewer not to use the 7010 for these channels but use my skystar

No but FWIW I am running Windows 7 x64 build 7201 with 4GB of memory and the card works a treat with the drivers found by Windows

Re: Pinnacle 7010i PCIe Dual DVB-T / DVB-S/ Analogue

hello. i have read every page of this thread and am banging my head off the floor.

I have the 3010ix, which i understand is the same as the 7010ix, minus dvb-s tuners.

Im running windows 7 7600 64bit with 4gb ram and have downloaded the blackgold driver, after using the windows update version for pinnacle. The pinnacle version is only allowing me to find 22 channels of dvb-t, which, at the moment, i can only view via dvbviewer.

The big problem for me at the moment, which is probably due to something minor, is that despite my attempts to uninstall the pinnacle via device manager, on scanning for new devices, it just finds the driver on my pc again and reinstalls it. I have tried rebooting and unplugging the internet connection, rebooting into safe mode, driver cleaner pro, driver sweeper and just plain uninstalling the pinnacle and installing the blackgold driver on top of it without rebooting (which doesnt work).

Is there something blatantly obvious i am missing out?

cheers

kirk

UPDATE

tried the card and pinnacle driver on vista Media center 32bit and works, picking up 78 channels and playing them, with no problems

I have had it happening on both xp and vista using MP and MCE, its obviously something to do with the pcie slot/card not initialising from standby or turnon occasionally. I'm using the pinnacle driver
Only way to get it back once this happens is remove power from pc for 10 secs

I know this is an old strand but maybe some folks still check it!

After several weeks of frustration with trying to get the board to 'stay connected' by playing with bits of padding (it always worked fine if the locking screw was left off) I tried it in the x16 slot (i.e. the long one) and it has worked fine ever since (several months). Obviously this can only work if you don't have a video card in the slot! I have HDMI video on the mobo so I don't need it.
FWIW
