You will.

I am upgrading from a E6600 which has been running @ 3.0 ghz since 2007 along with 4 gig of ram!

I have a GTX 260 216 core that I brought in 2009 that I will still use however until I find a killer GPU deal or intel get around to releasing the 660 GTX.

My friend runs BF middle graphics flawless with an old 920 i7 and a GTX 260 so I will probs look to overclock my GPU int he time i have left before the 660 GTX.

BF3 will move use up all the VRAM up to 1.5gig on the card, then it moves the textures to your page file. This is when you notice the performance drop.

I would say go for an AMD Radeon 6870 within the OP's price range and a pretty good card :-)

But you can do a comparison here :-)

So which is the best card out of the 6870, 6950 or 7850. I noticed the 7850 is PCI e 3.0 and the other two ain't .... Is that a big difference as my motherboard supports both.

I don't think you will notice any different in performance between 2.0 and 3.0 PICe

Hi after doing a bit of research the AMD 7850 is the card to buy

Also just to add the Sapphire ones are also the best from what I have read over at anandtech getting high praise also where did you get the price from? That seems a superb price for an overclocked version!

The price of £189.99 was from Dabs with free p+p. it was cheaper on pixmania though at about £182 but they wanted £8 for p+p. funny enough I went onto the pixmania site yesterday and the Sapphire HD 7850 OC is now showing up as £254..... Strange. Anyway I ordered it from dabs and I'm expecting delivery today

If you are getting it for £185 I would grab that quick, having looked even on overclockers I cannot find one that is overclocked for that price!

That's great.

I currently got a GTX 285, playing BF3 at 1080P at high settings and it runs fine. However, am looking to upgrade to either 560Ti 448 cores or 7850

Id go with the 7850 its better than the 560 ti in terms of power consumption around 100w less and runs cooler also looking over at the anandtech most users recommend the 7850 especially because of the extra vram.

I am running BF 3 on my new rig (i5 3570k Ivy, 16GB RAM, 256GB SSD and 448 core MSI GTX 560ti OC Twin Frozr card) at 1920x1080 resolution with a mix of Ultra and High Settings and am getting 60-80fps on pretty much all the maps I tried last night (mostly the new close quarters maps that have loads of destructable terrain etc).

Although my gfx card is pre-overclocked my CPU is currently running at the
stock 3.4Ghz.

Awesome game and one of the reasons I built the rig that I did. Insane draw distance and detail levels (and 64 players!) compared to the PS3 version I was used to!

Have to agree with you about the level of detail on the pc version as I had been playing the Xbox version since launch . Built my gaming PC a month ago but can't get used to it... May need cosmetic surgery to add 3 more fingers onto my left hand lol.... Probably going to break rig up and sell it or sell it as a complete build.
