Using my DVI cable

hi,

I got an old 32bit xp system running at home and my G/card has a duel output one VGA and one DVI I brought a DVI cable to HDMI to plug into my 32" Samsung TV and when I go into control setting to activate my 2nd screen my comp dosent seem to recognise this cable.

now I have in the past ran a 7pin s-video with a bridge convertor to male to male rca into my tv which works fine.

I have a dell insprion 9100 if anyone has ne ideas on how I can get my DVI cable to work that would be great.

If you're using an ATI graphics card, I believe the DVI out requires an ATI-specific HDMI adapter as they use non-standard pin-outs. I don't think a generic DVI to HDMI adapter will work for this reason.
