Found this which might help...

Install the latest ATI drivers, the Microsoft drivers then load automatically. Then install Realtek ATI HDMI drivers (Google "ATI HDMI Audio Device" ).

Then I install "ac3filter" (google it, it's free). Restart after that. In ac3filter Main Tab check "Use SPDIF" and choose 5.1 audio out. In the SPDIF Tab choose the formats you Surround Sound can decode (DTS, AC3, PCM 24bit).

Turn on your receiver. In the Audio control panel choose Realtek HDMI Output as Default, choose Properties, click Supported Formats Tab, test what formats will play and do the same in Advanced (choose 24bit).

Re: Ati 3870

I didn't think the 38xx series could do HD audio, as in DTS MA and Dolby TrueHD. I wasn't even aware it could pass multi-channel LPCM.

I know the 58xx series can pass lossless HD audio, and I think the 48xx series can pass LPCM, but I thought the 38xx was only capable of lossy DD and DTS?

But I never owned one so don't quote me on that
