GT5p Update - Download Error

When attempting to download the update, the progress bar is staying at what I can only guess is 0 for a long time before moving a couple of tiny notches up and then producing an error

"An error occurred during download"

I am connected using a wirless network to my Sky router, and the connection should be fine as I am able to play pes09 online games with very little lag, which seems to be a novelty!

Does anybody have any idea why I may be getting this problem and what I would need to do to sort it and get the download? Can I download it onto USB and transfer it (obviously would rather get any background problem sorted, but this would be a last resort).

Re: GT5p Update - Download Error

Managed to get mine to work last night, Waited till my housemates were all gone, switched my laptop's wireless off, and tried. First time it got to 75%ish before erroring, second try and it got the whole way. Took an age but I'm finally patched up. If I had a long enough network cable I'd get a wired connection set-up for such things.

Re: GT5p Update - Download Error

Ham-Rye glad to hear that you have managed to get your updates

I however have a very similar problem and I have never been able to update the game even once, and so cannot play it online at all - when I try to connect online it tells me an update has to be downloaded first.

Anyway the progress bar moves (slowly) up to about 1/6th of the way along and then it Always Fails

My PS3 has real problems with my Wi-Fi so the last download I did was for the Photo Album maker via direct CAT5 cable. It was just over 100mb and downloaded no problem.

But updating GT5 - never

Surely there must be some way of downloading an update via a PC - like the PS3 firmware updates - I always use this method and then transfer via a USB stick.
Does anybody know if this is possible?? I have tried looking on the publishers website, but cannot see anything.

Would love to get any advice on this - my Router is a Belkin N1 Vision.

Thanks

I don't know about your router but the Download Bar is not a true indication of your progress as each time you try to download the game caches your previous downloads so although the bar starts from the beginning the download doesn't, just bear with it and keep trying I'm afraid.

Re: GT5p Update - Download Error

I did not realise that there was a download cache!

It finally finished it this morning!!!

Thanks

Now if I could just manage to connect to a game . . . . .

Question Re: GT5p Update - Download Error

Mine manages 900mb demos, but this patch is taking forever. And keeps failing.

Instead of relying on the cache, is there a website you can download to a memory usb stick????

Re: GT5p Update - Download Error

I had problems downloading when I had it setup on wireless at my old home. But downloaded it first time on a wired connection at my new home. Maybe this will make the difference to those who have been having this problem? It's worth a try at least.

Question Re: GT5p Update - Download Error

Being on a works net here, I cannot search any game related website for a download to USB for the patch. Can anyone give/find such a link?

(not browsing by the ps3 at home - its a farce)

Tried the PS3 GT5 update (while in game) and again it failed - this time at 50% done.

So would really like a web link if it exists.

Is this an automatic update or is this something you are able to force manually...? I'm asking as I've only just got GT5p and have read about problems updating and playing online but haven't found how you'd force an update, unless it happens when you play online, which I've done a few times (failed first evening, seems to have worked ok since then).

The banner top left in the main GT5 menu shows spec III, which from the 'news' bit seems to indicate a recent update but when I got the game I left it to install itself so don't know if it downloaded an update while I was doing other things and can't remember if it said spec III when I first ran the game.
