Input lag definitely effects the online racing, it won't make any difference with tt's or just playing single player.

Any serious gamer really has to stay well clear of recent sammy models.

I would suggest looking at the panasonic/pioneer plasma's or sony's bravia range

Sonys motionflow mcfi really does work well with all the games I play, GT looks super smooth and no flicker. Even with it turned on the lag is minimal compared to others.

Re: input lag affect GT5 racing?

Yeah, was looking at the W4000, as the W4500 is just out of my budget and prefer the aestetics of it.

Why would input lag not make a difference to TTs or single player but to online racing?

Would that not be online lag as opposed to input?

The only thing putting me off going for a new sony is the fact that the input lag is the same as the new sammy 17-33ms, there is confusion in the hdtvtest review thought but it is now thought that the figures stated are meant to mean how much slower than their reference set which is 30ms, which equates to 47-63ms, same as the sammy b650.

I would of thought that input lag would affect TTs and single player also surely?

Obviously the lag is always there no matter what you do but it is only noticable when playing online. With a tt is doesn't really matter as the time will be the same when the game is running. Say your lag is 33ms well when you cross the start line the clock starts in game but it takes 33ms longer to appear on screen for you. Same applies when you finish. The time in the game is the same for everyone regardless of lag, its just displayed a little later for you.

When competing online because the game is running a constant time for all involved the lag is more noticable for people with high input lag.

Everyone starts at 0.00 but straight away after the first second some would be seeing the action at say 10ms -22ms or 33ms and higher lag. If the person next to you sees the action say 20 ms quicker than you it is perceivable that he could just get the line for the next corner a split second quicker than you. This is known to cause un-anticipated collisions or knocks because people are seeing the action at slightly different times.

Add to that your connection lag which can occur when the servers get busy or the hosts connection is weak and you start to see why some races are very messy.

To be fair gt is usually very good and doesn't suffer too much lag online.

I would say its FPS games that really have issue's with some panels input lag.

With motionflow turned off hdtv tests finding are around 10ms for w4500. Personally its never been an issue for me

Re: input lag affect GT5 racing?

very confusing. In other posts Ive read that input lag is the time between when you press a button and for the tv to respond to that lag?

whats the difference between response time and input lag?

Does this explain why you can seem to punt another car off although you think your not close enough to hit them?

Re: input lag affect GT5 racing?

Output lag can be pretty nasty for racing sims, as at 200mph youre covering almost 300ft a second, 5ft per frame at 60frames a second.

Response time is usually the time it takes a screen pixel to change from a particular state to another state. Output lag is the total time it takes for a device to output an image after its been fed in. This generally increases as digital TVs carry out lots of image processing (gaming modes usually limit this).

The wiki entry on this is pretty informative, Output Lag - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
