GT5 damage on "ALL" cars

yep thats right lads!

Quote:
After spending some hands-on time with the Gran Turismo 5 demo at the Tokyo Game Show, IGN editors got the chance to speak with a “Sony rep” who was able to clarify some of the questions about the differences in vehicular damage. Concerns were first raised when Yamauchi specifically mentioned “damage to racing cars”, leaving the door open to speculation that “street cars” in the game may not be so fragile. This notion was reinforced when only Subaru’s WRC rally car showed damage at GamesCom.

Now, at TGS, we may finally be catching a glimpse of what this secondary level of deconstruction actually looks like. As you can see, although body panels do not become detached, they do, to quote IGN editor Greg Miller, show “deformation damage — scratches and stuff”. Greg was also able to reaffirm that all cars will experience mechanical damage. While this is refreshing news, the question still remains: is Polyphony Digital restricted from showing “full” damage on street cars due to manufacturer licensing issues, or would it simply take too long to implement such severe deformation on GT5’s diverse catalog of nearly 1,000 vehicles? It would be a great direct question for an interview with Yamauchi-san, but I’m not going to hold my breath… Check out the video after the jump.
All Cars Get “Damage” in Gran Turismo 5

All thats needed in this game is teh following:
  • GTR Evo type handling/physics
  • Day, and night racing
  • Dynamic weather effects
  • at least 16 players for online play
  • Create your own racing series with driver standings
  • Practise, qualification and race sessions in one race like the F1
  • Ability to create your own Track(Bonus)

Yes thats right, but that is only with the race spec cars.

It is widely believed that manufacturers will not allow their production cars to be depicted with large amount of damage in computer games, this is probably the reason why the damage shown in the forza 3 demo is very similar to what has been shown for production cars in GT5.

Race cars do not carry the same restrictions, hence you can see a subaru rally car with more extensive damage, the same for games like shift etc.

Re: GT5 damage on "ALL" cars

So by mechanical damage, they mean your cars performance will be affected? Happy days. That's one big hurdle over my scepticism.

Now all it needs is dynamic weather, real life WRC stages and the 5 sec collision penalty removed and I'll be fairly happy. It's never going to be a proper racing sim but at least it'll be a step forward (hopefully)

Ideally there'd be day/night transitions too.

good news although not to fussed about damage on cars, i'd rather have a much improved AI...whether it has already been implemented or not who knows.

Forgot about the ai. That is the main factor that stops it deeling like proper racing and every bit as important as the mechanical damage.

PD giveth with one hand, and taketh with the other

Only a basic online presence
Yamauchi Talks Gran Turismo 5 - PlayStation 3 News at GameSpot

'Gran Turismo 5 will have an online presence, but it won't be quite as ambitious as originally planned… at least not yet. When GT 5 ships, it will include online features such as lobbies to set up races, text/voice chat, private rooms, as well as the places to share your photo and replays online (and even the ability to automatically upload your replays to YouTube). However, the plans outlined by Yamauchi back in 2006 for a marketplace that would let players download cars, tracks, and parts, won't be part of the game at launch.

"It's a definite possibility of something we might do [in the future] but, at the release of GT5, I don't think we'll have that functionality where you can buy single components for your car." '

Day and night cycle and weather!!! As well as tire degradation (apprantly)

TBH. we can come up with a list with 1000's of features we would love in this game and if you wanted them all to be their, are you prepared to wait another 5 years for that to happen?

tbh i will be happy 16 player lag free racing and some mechanism to make it easy to join friends racing session and vice versa than to trade cars tracks etc with them.

They have hinted all along that GT5 wont stop being developed when it gets released. they are going to generate all that hard earn cash put into this project using DLC's and i for one will most definetly be purchasing some if not all DLC's if their good and this is from a person who has NEVER purchased a single DLC in his life

Re: GT5 damage on "ALL" cars

they were never going to achieve those wishes for online when they can barely get a decent online mode just for racing.

Incidently has the online side of things got any better with GT5P lately?

Re: GT5 damage on "ALL" cars

Really looking foward to/hoping for Day and night cycle and weather.
Tire degradation I like as well. IIRC this was in GT4, so it really should be a given that GT5 will have it IMO.
I remember the tyre icon turning from blue through red and understeering like mad when that happend, and then limping around to the pits for new rubber, great fun

That's great news and I'm definitely very hopeful on this now. All that other online stuff they're talking about leaving out doesn't bother me.

My own personal checklist (ideal scenario)

Mechanical damage - check
Day/night transitions - check
Dynamic weather - check
Official WRC stages (not just WRC cars on the normal tracks)
Decent opponent AI
Improved handling

Would I'd love PD to consider is a stripped down version of the full game (no not Prologue) All the features but just the pick of the cars. I want to be able to setup racing cars and drive supercars but the whole tuning thing and K cars does nothing for me now. It's a chore in fact.

Re: GT5 damage on "ALL" cars

am i missing something here ???? dynamic weather ? day/night cycles ?? i have just watched ign video and the answear he gives is that yes that is something they can do but they dont no if they putting it into the game, it depends what impact it has on the games dynamics, to me that means they toying with doing it, but at this moment in time it not in and might not be in.plus the way i see it, it will be mar2010 for japan and usa, and to me if it down to sony uk they wont have two big titles out in same month , ie god of war 3 and gt5, i think gow3 in mar2010 and gt5 in may 2010

Reading between the lines, for this to be a launch feature, they'd have to have DLC already in place to buy from day one - meaning they'll be accused of money grabbing right from off by everyone claiming that the DLC should have been on the disc if it was ready to go... or there's a marketplace with nothing to buy from it.

No win situation for PD to have this feature ready for launch.

Very good. It 'appears' that they're listening to fans and feedback. Out here the same time as Asia too (hopefully)
