GT5......release date window announced

Gran Turismo 5: March 2010 in Japan

5th March 2010..in JAPAN they estimate March for Japan and will be around Summer 2010 for the US, which will mean roughly September - December 2010 for Europe as we get everything last

So the official magazine you can pick up at the Tokyo Game Show not only lists every game on the floor, but some important details on those games. Like, how far they are from completion.

Now, note that these are just estimates, no doubt thrown together by publishers and the show's organisers to give people a rough idea how far off the games are. So they're not hard science.

But still! It's interesting to note the progress listed for some of these games. Gran Turismo 5, for example? Despite rumours that it's due this holiday season, it's only listed as being 65% done.

Final Fantasy XIII, on the other hand, is sitting pretty a 90%. Other notable games listed are:

Gran Tourismo 5: 65%
Final Fantisy XIII: 90%
Okamiden: 25%
Lost Planet 2: 70%
Valkyria Chronicles 2: 70%
Yakuza 4: 65%
The Last Guardian: ?
Crackdown 2: ?
Alan Wake: ?
Halo Reach: ?
Final Fantasy XIV: 50%
Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker: 50%
God of War III: 60%
Heavy Rain: 50%

Re: GT5......release date window announced

Looks like the bloody slim i bought in anticipation of GT5's December's release date will be out of warranty, this all seems rather familiar, i bought my first PS3 on the strength of GT5 too.

As i don't want to get banned from this forum i wont use the expletives i wanted to.

Mark.

Re: GT5......release date window announced

they only announced March 2010 for Japan - makes sense because TGS is a Japanese game show. Any other release dates for Europe and US are conjecture at the moment.

Its possible that all three will release in March - its a big selling season in both the US and Europe, and localisation should be ready by then.

Re: GT5......release date window announced

Do you know what, I can say I am not surprised. I was expecting March 2010 regardless of all the internet hype, then I though to myself would Sony really want to release this game in and around the likes of god of War 3 which is a big exclusive, Mag etc.

Another point to make Kazunori Yamauchi has stated there are 120 people working on Gt5, this simply is not enough. In Forza 3 for example there were 250 people working on the technical aspects of the game such as track design, car dynamics etc. That is without accounting for other aspects of the game which take a significant time. All in all I think this just proves PD is not a massive games developer in terms of size, and needs to expand, and this is from someone who has every single GT game.

This game has been available for pre order from play.com since summer 2006, it is truly shocking.

Re: GT5......release date window announced

The March release date doesn't really bother me, 3 months is not that long to wait when there are plenty of other good racing games to be getting on with. However, what would be of concern is if we go on past GT releases, they usually come out in JPN then 9 months later in US/EU so I hope we aren't looking at a Dec 2010 release for UK.

What an effing joke. How long have they been working on the game now????

All I can say is that after the mammoth wait, this game had better be like the second coming or something. History tells us however that much delayed games invariably lose focus, become bloated adding new features playing catchup with rivals and generally don't match expectations.

I'm having a lot of fun with GT5p and my G25 but I really think we could be in danger of having a 'Daikatana' repeat with the actual game - whenever it may be released.

So it's taken them years to get it to 65% complete and they reckon they can do the last 35% in 6 months?

Re: GT5......release date window announced

What is interesting is that a number of the online game retailers (eg The Hut, Play etc) have 4 Dec 2009 as their launch date. I wonder where they got that from - I very much doubt they trawled the internet for release date rumours. It must have been an official date from someone

I don't think so, GAME, etc. have had various release dates for the past few years

They all just picked up on the latest rumors

Re: GT5......release date window announced

If it takes 4 years for them to develop this game then god knows how long it will take to release GT6! I can see a 2020 release date on Playstation 4 as a fairly acturate guess!
They seriously need more developers working on GT5 otherwise it is in danger of losing alot of fans and soon enough people will just move on and buy other racing games such as NFS Shift, Grid 2 etc. I was thinking of getting the G27 for xmas too but now I think I will be getting it next year instead when the prices are lower. It's the only positive I can find out of all of this!

I've heard quite a few people say they've lost interest waiting or that they've left it too long to release this game, they started trouble for themselves by getting the ball rolling with prologue. rather than keeping people happy with a stripped down version all they've done is create more anticipation for the finished game.

The thing is, they're losing ground because in the time it takes them to fully release this, others may have caught up or even produced better titles.

Right now, GT5 seems to be the daddy of the car racing games, but there are other racing games out now that are not too far behind, give that another twelve months or so and GT5 may not have the same pull, it may well even be slightly out dated.

The developers seem to have a rather blase approach to these possibilities?

If the Xbox would work with G25/G27 then I'd buy one and give up on the PS3 for driving games.

It's the lack of a decent controller that holds the Xbox back - unless you want to get that super expensive Porsche wheel.

This seems insane from PD. You can only hope it's to make the game everything it should have been over the years but wasn't.

I'm tempted to ask how much time would be saved by not including all the K car rubbish but I won't
