I am excited to read this as I really want to some a commercial application for Johnny Lees work.. But I don't see how this would work in GT5.

In a game like Boom Blox (where it was meant to be implemented but canned at the last minute), it makes sense as you can move your head around to see the blocks at a slightly different angle.

It would also work in an FPS, as your head position could allow you to see things from a slightly different perspective.. But in a car, how would it work.

You look forwards and you see out the windscreen.. You then turn to the right and the camera turns to the right.. But then you are no longer looking at the screen, so you can't get the effect.. For it to work, the screen would have to move too.

Of course, the effect could be 'subtle'.. But then slight movements would cause the camera to move all over the place...

So I don't think that this would be a good feature.. But I could be proved wrong...

I reckon polophony know what they're doing and will make sure the feature works well. Very tempting to get a PS Eye now.

From what I gathered though, it doesn't use the PS Eye - it uses an IR camera and 'glasses' with 2 IR emitter diodes on them.

Of course, the PS Eye can 'see' IR light but obviously not as distinct as a proper IR camera

I'm not sure how this will function with PS Eye but if it does - awesome!

Re: GT5 to Feature Head Motion Technology

I would imagine we will hear more about it at the TGS later this month.

Personally I don't think it has to do all that much to make quite a big difference to the feeling of immersion.

I would not be too happy with something that made large changes to the screen from subtle head movements, i.e. a slight movement of the head to the right making a large change in the camera angle to the right to look into a corner for instance, as this would be disorientating.

If you think about it though, the demos shown when translated into GT5 could mean that as you shift around in your chair whilst playing your monitor would become far more like the windscreen of a car.

Subtle differences in your positioning and the small changes that you would see on screen would make a big difference to the feeling of immersion you would feel in cockpit view for instance.

Johnny Chung Lee's videos show how this technology can give a much greater feeling of depth to a picture and if it is implemented well it could make a big difference to something like GT5
