He probably say it was naff then crash it LOL

All jokes aside, I would like to see a PC even try this, the PS3 has had every ounce of coding, IMO to make this franchise be the king of all racers, having seen some videos of the newer released footage, man is it eye candy, brought a tear to my eye..
Finally some one giving us something good on the PS3, its full potential, now only to get Wipe Out HD...

I wish they'd release a 'race only' version of GT5 where you didn't have to wade through endless tat that, lets face it, is only there to bulk out the game and massage the creators ego.

Also, any news on how weather will be implemented?

Looks like damage IS included! I noticed that the car on the screen on the left crashes into a wall at 52 seconds and from then on his door stays open!

Yeh, 1000 cars but there will probably be about 200 versions of the Skyline, RX7, Imprezzas etc. Does get a bit boring after a while and I'm a massive fan as well.

Also, watching the footage, NO sign of crash damage! Maybe it was in arcade mode or something...

Just watched it again, and noticed there is visible bumper damage at 49-50 just before the man walks infront of the screen

yes but you dont have to buy all the different variations of the same cars, for me the more cars the better, even if it is different yr of model of car, or different spec. for me only downside is that we gonna have to wait another month till tgs before we get any decent info, and hopefully a realese date for this, be even better if sony updated this week store with the demo thats at the show this week. just cant wait to see some videos from outside showing damage, i want to see some other videos with better view of cars.

What about weather? Have we got real time rain or drying tracks for this or is it still just a couple of permanently damp circuits?

there will be nothing shown or announced about weather till at least tgs09 in sept, i think at the show it is just one track being shown with damage, but no weather or night cycle etc

Re: GT5 at Gamescom

Don't get me wrong, the more choice you have the better. What I would rather have is more variation in cars, for example more manufacturers (dependent on licences of course) and maybe more historical cars, especially like 40's to 70's racing cars like Ferrari GTO's, Maseratis, Coopers, Lotus, Porsche 917/935 etc.

I know that this would have taken time to model these cars but I'm sure people would rather have say 700 of these cars rather than 1000 containing a large number of cars differing only by a special colour or a slightly different air intake in the front bumper etc.

Re: GT5 at Gamescom

My only gripe with the car choice is that it's always been too jap-centric - was nice to see a British dev (bizarre creations) sticking stuff like sierra cosworths into PGR4 - if Polyphony give us a few more european head-banger cars like that I'll be very happy indeed.

No-one seems to have picked up on the interior reflecting external damage - as has been mentioned in an earlier post, does this mean that if you were driving the car with the door open you'll be able to see it? And also, this will have an effect the audio (wind noise)

Uploads to You-tube - YT is going to be inundated, wouldn't suprise me if it got overwhelmed...

Re: GT5 at Gamescom

Also on the damage, will it affect your cars performance, even to the extent of forcing you to pit and repair damage?

Some of the best racing I ever had was on GT3 with mates using soft tyres so you realistically had to make a pitstop . Brings another element into it.

Regards to damage, I would have assumed that you would see damage modelled inside the car too. Would be a bit pointless if you had broken glass and bent/missing doors but form the inside it looked brand new. I'm sure other games like Dirt and Grid all do this brilliantly already.

Re: GT5 at Gamescom

DKenni, you're right about tyre condition and the excitement it can add to two player racing.

I can't remember whether it was GT1 or GT2 but me and my brother used to put on soft tyres and maximise the wear rate in our 5 lap races. The excitement would come from gambling on doing an extra lap more than him before pitting and risking time early on or pitting early and risking losing too much time towards the end when the other person had fresher tyres.

Or even bluffing your opponent and not pitting at all - trying to do the last two laps with yellow going on red tyres in a 700bhp Supra with only a 25 second lead not the easiest thing to do

So no if this rumoured 1000 cars has a bit of variation i'd be quite happy.

That's it exactly. Great times

Sadly I've just not been able to get into GT4 or 5p as much which is why I'm desperate for them to really have a change of direction and make it into a great racing game and not a fairly anal 'driving sim'.

I also hope they have some proper WRC stages in and not the same 'vague' tracks as before. Looking forward to see how they tackle Nascar as well.

This is the problem we have. I think the reason the earlier GT's were more fun imo was because they were not as accurate sims compared to the later versions. Due to the PS1/PS2 not having the computing power of the PS3, the physics modelling was probably not as realistic and thus allowed a bit of 'arcady' behaviour into the gameplay.

However, GT has always been about the sim aspect so the cars are not as throwable around the circuit, oversteer a lot less etc in standard or slightly modified form. I could be wrong with more advanced/extreme setups but how many people really go into that much depth to make their car more 'fun' to drive?

People will say that GT is all about sim and if you want fun, but NFS or something similar but I'm a big fan of the GT series as I still have all 5 GTs and regularly play them on my PS3. I even waited to buy the PS2 until GT3 came out and similarly with GT5P and PS3. It's just a shame that the 'fun' bit is slightly getting left behind.

I've still been waiting impatiently for GT5 and will buy it as soon as it's out - just wish it hadn't taken so many years...

That's not quite where I'm coming from. I do want it as a realistic sim as possible but instead of concentrating on driving and replicating huge amounts of cars, I'd rather they concentrated on fixing the really poor opponent AI, damage, weather etc.

What I want is a racing sim, not just a driving sim.

You're definitely right about the poor AI. There's no challenge in overtaking other cars as they do not respond like a real driver would, ie no subtle blocking, outbreaking, overtaking around the outside etc.

Surely they could implement AI like in the TOCA games - they are much better in this respect.

You would have thought so which is why I sometimes wonder if it's pure arrogance on their part for not doing so.

Re: GT5 at Gamescom

I can't beleive the AI is something that's been overlooked, I'd guess that PD have been forced to make alterations to it anyway due to the increased number of cars on track.

Seem obvious to me that GT5P won't be getting anymore updates prior to the full release now, but considering how damage was due in december and didn;t arrive, maybe PD will bless us with a taster of something else, AI would be a good one...
