too many Logitech wheels???

I'm sure this one has been done to death and back to life again several times:

I'm trying to research into which steering wheel to get for my Bday but I've found quite a few variations. Looks like most people plum for Logitech. This is what I think the order of quality is from looking at amazon:

1. G25
2. Driving force GT
3. Driving force pro
4. Driving force Ex

I can't justify buying the g25 so I'm assuming that the GT or Pro is the next best bet at about £45 - £70 notes. Obviously the wheel will be for other games as well as GT prolouge.

(The wheel will have to be attached to a table or ironing board)

Anyone got a bit of advice for a steering wheel newbie?

Re: too many Logitech wheels???

Im new to wheels and orderd a GT, I know the G25 is ment to be the best but I thought Id get the GT to see how I get on with it.

Think the cheapest I seen for it was on Amazon.

Did you consider the pro as well? How did you reach a decision on which one to get?

I read about the Ex on here and it reads like it's a bit plasticky and wobbles / vibrates when you are driving in a straight line which has put me off. (plus I think I can splash out a bit more cash than the Ex costs)

Re: too many Logitech wheels???

I think the gt is an updated pro wheel -

"Compared to the Driving Force Pro that came before it, you might think that not a lot has changed, but in fact the GT is an entirely new wheel. The button layout has received some slight tweaking, but the most exciting change is the larger wheel. Logitech bumped the wheel size from 10" to 11", and though that may not seem like much, the difference is quite noticeable in how you grip and move the wheel. Logitech also went back to the drawing board with the force feedback system, working closely with the team at Polyphony Digital to bring a much more realistic feedback system to the Driving Force GT. Though it's still just a single motor in there, the resistance and impact force that the GT can deliver is much improved and approaches the G25's performance. "

Re: too many Logitech wheels???

If you can't afford a G25 then the GT wheel is the next best thing. I had a DFPro and upgraded to a DFGT and it's a lot better. Better build quality, better motor, more accurate, stronger internals, a lot less oscillation. If you've got the £70 then the DFGT is the one, not the DFPro.

Re: too many Logitech wheels???

Ok, done a bit more research intop the GT and have another Q or two if anyone can answer me?

With the driving force GT do people tend to use the gear stick thingy or the buttons behind the wheel to change gear?

1. If gear stick - is it fairly easy to get used to it being on the wrong side for us brits?

2. If buttons behind the wheel - How easy is it to reach them with your fingers as I have big palms and short fingers (fnarr, fnarr)

3. The clamp looks quite short in terms of how far it reaches under a table top - anyone had any problems?

4. Does anyone use the red GT adjuster knob for car settings??

Last question - I have found a couple of posters who have complained about oscillation down the straights (manly for Grid and Dirt), Is this a known issue just with these games or is it the wheel at fault?

Again thanks for any replies

Re: too many Logitech wheels???

1)cross the channel and rent a car so you'll get used toseriously, dont worry too much about it,that wont ruin your experience of gaming with this wheel
2)my normal hands with nomal sized fingers can get access to the buttons quite easily and comfortably so I am not teh best person to answer here sorry
3)you are right, they seem short but I have managed to clamp it to coffee table or ironing board without any problems
4) fair point but I would highly suggest that once you get the wheel, you play with actual in game settings. that makes a huuuuuuuuuuuuuge difference in the hate or like it factor IMHO
I was loving the GT wheel in GT5 and hating it in GRID until I found the setting which suits my driving the bestand since then, I will never ever go back to pad for racers gaming

hope this helps

The stick works well. But I've set mine up as a handbrake.
The F1 style paddles are easily reachable by anyone 10.
The clamp expands and can clamp to anything from 1 - 10 cms thick it does hold it nicely in place.
The red button adjuster works brilliantly in GT5P and yes i do use it.
