Unhappy Samsung HT-TX35R Problem

I just got my new Samsung HT-TX35R, which is connected to my Samsung LE46M87BDX/XEU LCD TV. But the problem is that the surround sound only works when I play a DVD, how do I turn on the sound when my Virgin Box is on? Which is connected through SCART.

Does any one out there have any possible ideas or solutions?

Re: Samsung HT-TX35R Problem

You need to connect an optical lead between your Virgin box & your Samsung HT-TX35R. If your Virgin box doesn't have an optical output, then use a twin phono lead instead. Note, both can be found cheaper on ebay if you're willing to wait for delivery

The only problem with that is that, my Virgin box is really old and I don't think it comes with that type of connection.

Please take a look at the attached picture of the back of the box.

Re: Samsung HT-TX35R Problem

No probs - just replace your current scart lead for one with an 'audio breakout' like this. It 'breaks out' the audio from the scart on your Virgin box, so you are able to connect it to your Samsung HT-TX35R for surround sound

Question Re: Samsung HT-TX35R Problem

Okay so I get some audio breaker with SCART, but then I also have a Wii which is connected with the HD COMPONENT cable, and I get the same problem sound only comes out of the TV and not the surround sound speakers.

Any hints on the problem?

P.S the COMPONENT cable is connected directly to the TV if that helps.

Re: Samsung HT-TX35R Problem

I didn't realise you had other devices to connect, so forget about the scart with audio breakout. Just connect either of the first two leads I mentioned between your TV & Samsung HT-TX35R. That way, whatever you're watching/playing on your TV will come through your surround system

Re: Samsung HT-TX35R Problem

So all I need to get is a Twin Phono Lead, which will be connected to my LCD TV directly to my DVD player and the I will be able to get surround sound from any AV source?
