On-demand movie library

I currently have all of my DVD's ripped to the hard drive of my PC and play them on my TV through my xbox 360. This works fine, but I've been hoping to get something like this: http://www.axonix.com/Mediamax/ScreenShots.aspx.

I'm looking for something far cheaper than that, but I like the idea of being able to store the DVD covers and a brief description for each movie.

I guess that moving away from the 360 is the way forward, perhaps to some kind of server stored under the stairs, but I'm fairly clueless about the type of options that are available to me.

Anyone have any ideas?
