LA Police Behaviour

Some questionable behaviour

BBC NEWS | World | Americas | LA officer 'kicks suspect in head'
Quote:
A police car chase through a suburb in Los Angeles ended with a policeman apparently kicking a suspect in the head as he lay face down on the ground.

Video footage, captured by TV news helicopters, shows the officer striking the man in a garden as he lay face down on the grass with his arms outstretched.
Having already surrendered and lying face down before the officers even got to him, it is questionable why one officer has to kick him in the head, and then the next office seeming to beat him several times...

Do you honestly believe this is worse than things used to be?

Police brutality's not a new thing at all. The recent G20 crowds would've got a much worse hiding in the 80's...

Can I have some of those pills

Human beings don't always restrict violence to justified circumstances ... regardless of what they do for a living.

Failed promotion attempt, dumped by girlfriend, lost at the track, someone scratched your car and drove off, lack of sleep..... unfortunately you are fighting an instinctive response.

Every single one of us is capable of inappropriate violence given the right circumstances or stimuli.

Those with the lower tolerances and least resistance to those stimuli should not be the ones enforcing the law - which would be comment on the police officer in this instance.

Yeah so what!

If they were British cops they would have arrested the owner of the parked car that this scumbag crashed into!

Do you really believe that??

I once got the wet blanket treatment in a police holding cell because I didn't know the answer to a question......incidently...I still don't know the answer almost 20 yrs later.

And before anyone thinks that things were different in N. Ireland when I grew up during the troubles, this happened in England, although admittedly it was related to an incident in N.I.

There will always be bad cops (as in any profession), otherwise how could they play the good cop / bad cop game.

Re: LA Police Behaviour

Ethics their is some truth in what you say. However when you are exposed on a daily basis, day in and day out to violence or the threat of violence,or simply stupid argumenative drunks, then your tolerances will eventually become very low.

I would guess in the USA were gun crime is pretty prevailent, cops just dont take any chances.

I believe the biggest majority of murdered officers in the USA are shot from a distance of 3 feet. Which is prove in itself that cops try to talk first.

I was disgusted, because i feel the BBC and government try to hush police murders up if they can. My opinion is based on the Policeman who was shot dead in London whilst talking to a member of the public. It warranted no TV exposure just a tiny bit in the papers.

Im sorry to say but race plays a part in this. If the killer had been a white football fan, you would never have heard the end of it. African asylum seeker suspected...nothing else said. The poor cop was sat on a bike, minding his own business, when he was killed.

Re: LA Police Behaviour

After car chases that ended with the yobs crashing into a tree or something my traffic cop mate used to be so wound up dealing with the chav car thieves that he would drag them through the broken winscreen or side glass, just to do them more damage and get away with it as it would appear the injuries were from the crash. The difference is that it was not caught on camera as I am sure he would have been up on brutality charges.

His defence would have been M'lud I thought the car was about to be engulfed in flames, and in order to save the perps life and risk my own I had to drag him through the windscreen.

Well done Officer, case dismissed.

Re: LA Police Behaviour

i don't see a problem here.

any scumbag that risks innocent lives by not stopping for police and driving like a madman deserves at the very least a kick in the head. The scumbag obviously had no respect for innocent bystanders so why treat him with respect?

Re: LA Police Behaviour

That clip is a bit brutal like but what really gets on my nerves is the dogs and dog handlers. In that situation (and so many others according to sky1 post-midnight ) with 2 cops on top of the bloke, what need is there for that snarling beast to be right next to him? He's already restrained.

I hate seeing the dog handlers 'struggle' with the dog so it's within a foot of someone's face and barking/snarling etc like it's gonna go for them. Thing is, if a mad dog attacks you and you fight back you can get done for assaulting a police officer don't quite see how that works (unless I've picked up the wrong end of the stick somewhere) - I mean, if a dog, police, fire, BT repair or just bog standard 'dog' was coming at me and looking like it was gonna kill me I'd Crocodile Dundee it and certainly wouldn't think twice about trying to kill it, definitely would be annoyed at being done for assaulting a police officer however.
