FeatherDown Farm Holidays / camping

Hi all, the family and I are about to head off on a featherdown farm holiday (well in a few weeks) and wondered if anyone else here had been to one before and have any tips.

of course i shall let yo uknow. looks like alot of fun, we got 2 small boys nearly 6 and nearly 3 so they should love it. Not sure how they will survive without the DS and the likes lol but we shall see. I think they will be to tired of running around to even think of the gadgets
I have read up on other sites a bit about peoples trips and it sounds great. Just hoping to hear from others that have gone incase there is a must have that we should take that is either not included in the packs etc.

opening this up a bit now as It seems nobody here has gone on one of these holidays. Now asking the camping fans the same question... Any must have's when out the in the wilderness obviously we are not heading up a mountain and the tent is a bit more than a few poles and a sheet but we are very new to this whole back to basics type break.

Make sure it has an electric hook up point at the campsite, if there is one available it will be a godsend! And bug repellant!

Not just bug spray, you can get moskill coils that you light and place around the area you are sitting to see the blighters on their way. Make sure you take a 12 volt adaptor for the car, you can get all sorts of time-saving stuff for them, just in case! Get tiki torches for the evening, they are cool and really help with the camping spirt! A PACK OF CARDS is also vital! If you have a lot of open space, get an Aerobie, it's the best thing for throwing around, trust me, these things travel further than you can shout! You might also need a wind up torch, if you're caught short after dark!

I love camping.

Re: FeatherDown Farm Holidays

And no carbon footprint using wood burning fires (Wellness Pure!...the Feather Down Field Spa, as nature intended.)
I am getting one in every room now Hope you have a fantastic time but it seems a complete ripoff to me "£32.50 for stew for four"

I think i read about the stew price. we will be making all our own food as agreed £32.50 is a bit much for a stew.

Re: FeatherDown Farm Holidays

Hadn't heard of them before but as a seasoned camper they look fantastic fun My advise is don't try and over prepare just immerse yourself in the experience. Campsite shops can be an expensive way to buy provisions due to the captive market, but are also a godsend if you need something. Do use the local markets to buy your food, or here: Corfe - There's More to Corfe than just a Castle ! but don't be ashamed to pop the farms postcode into your favourite supermarkets websites to find the closest one to stock up on brews

There's Somerfields in Wareham and Swanage, not sure if they count

Re: FeatherDown Farm Holidays

Sorry, but where are you supposed to bath or shower, or do you just not bother.

There's a flushing loo in the tent and a stand pump in the paddock, what more do you need I can post heavily edited photos of my girls having a shower in a gorilla bucket while wild camping with "no facilities" last summer but I'd prefer not to have to prove it

It's ok, i'll take your word for it!

I dont mean to sound like a dirty git, but to be honest, if I was camping, a few days without a shower would'nt bother me too much, just have washdown every morning.

I suppose your going back to nature, and therefore have to do without such luxuries.

Im going camping at the end of May. A friend has bought something called a trailer tent, so we are going to go and do a bit of fishing up in Northamptonshire.

A quick bump from me-there's an article on Featherdown Farm in yesterday's Sunday Times, I was thinking to myself "That rings a bell but I can't think why!"

Then I rememberred your thread!
