Giving "Thanks" is it really that hard ?

I've just popped into a section of the forum where a long standing Member has asked a certain question to which an even more prolific member gave him/her an answer. the first "member" wasn't happy with the reply so he/she questioned it ,then the long serving member produced at raft of information to help the Guy/Gal .....to which he got ..quote "Thanks very much"

why not just hit the thanks button

P.s the guy/gal in question has something like ..given 7 received 47

is the "THANKS " system a farce ?

For many of us fossils, the Thanks button is a bit new fangled and confusing. I confess I don't use it often- 3 of the thanks I've given were when I was going for the quote button when drunk.

Re: Giving "Thanks" is it really that hard ?

I've never really held much stock in it, I don't know exactly what purpose it is meant to serve. As for the actual giving of "thanks" I'd say it means more to take the time to write the words than it does to simply click the button? Maybe do both when it comes to advice...

People seem to mostly give thanks out just for having someone agree with them...in that case it saves a post and is perfectly useful because it doesn't take up much space on the page.

I'm almost 100% certain that I have not been useful 276 times here!

Plus Ed's "thanks" carry much more weight than mine, they are a thing to be cherished and I strive for the day that I might recieve one!

Re: Giving "Thanks" is it really that hard ?

It maybe under the circumstances superfluous to requirement but you know I quite like it, somebody's made an effort at the end of the day. How often do we see the reverse where people feel they have a divine right to get an answer to something and can't even be bothered to hit the Thanks button.

Re: Giving "Thanks" is it really that hard ?

maybe we should also have an "annoyed at you" button...that would be really useful to let people know when they are being out of order...myself included!

Ah, but just by clicking thanks, people's post counts don't go up do they and we know how important they are!

Implementing a pillock button too would give the system more credibility IMHO.

Doh! Beaten to it. Where's that "annoyed at you" button when you need it?

That's a working class version of the button I just suggested! I have first dibs on that suggestion and should receive all the thanks it absolutely deserves.

Not so sure I like my new promotion to "Veteran", I always thought "Prominent Member" had more of a ring to it

I think it's disgusting that the system discriminates against schizophrenics by not allowing you to thank yourself.

don't worry about it , it seems you might mistake it with the "space bar"

Speaking of poor grammar, have you ever made a sign and noticed a glaring mistake only after you have finished it? And if so did you have a temper tantrum?
