Thanks: Gave 158, Got 80 | Codec packs
My computer is littered with codec packs and filters and such - any one know of an all-inclusive pack which means I can uninstall the cocophony of others?

Erm, just the greatest pack of them all:
K-Lite Mega Codec Pack, in combination with Media Player Classic (Included in pack) and VLC Player (Which will play anything, if it cant play it, then delete the file, as no player will play it).

^ Sorry but K-Lite Mega Codec Pack is not the greatest. In fact it's probably one of the worst. The best without a doubt is CCCP.

Stay well away from K-Lite.

Thanks. Does anyone else use CCCP? At the minute I have K-Lite, AC3 Filter, Theoretica, ffdshow and XviD. Can these all be deleted if I go to CCCP?

best codec pack = none of them.
never install the packs, install any needed codes one at a time.
getting rid of them is the devils own job - many tools out there to do it but real easy to stuff things up.
some people end up doing a system wipe out and start from scratch when their system gets codec hiccups...
real easy to end up with a lot of codec spaghetti in your system and have real difficulties getting the preferred ones actually used.
Graphedit a very useful tool - especially as you can use it to create a filter set to do just about anything you want. RYO video tools !

I have used CCP in the past, and there is not much difference between it and K-lite in terms of usage.

Invariably if you have problems then you are more likely to be posting online about it to complain or get a fix Quote:

Dave | Media Player Classic is a play-it-all software player. The acronyms above are just the packs available to download and play every conceivable video and music format you could encounter. MPC despite its versatility is preferred as a video player due to its configurability and low system requirements
I use MPC + K-Lite... although will soon be migrating to MPC HC the spiritual successor to MPC after the creator stopped developing it. MPC HC offloads some of the work to the GPU for H.264 playback so your CPU is working less

MPCHC is included in CCCP. Can't believe anyone uses that POS software K-Lite. Even VLC Player is starting to suck lately. The amount of unfixed bugs is ridiculous, been looking at K-Player (I think?) as a proper replacement.

When I went to the CCCP install, I noticed that the limited number of codecs doesn't include XviD or AC3 - will I need to keep these then?
