Teaching abroad for a month

Hi guys, I have always fancied teaching English abroad. I would be looking to go to Asia (possibly Japan, China, Hong Kong or Vietnam for example).

Due to renting, girlfriend and work issues I doubt it could be for any longer than 3 -4 weeks. I would also be on a fairly tight budget.

Has anyone done anything similar to this? Do you know of organisations that place people within communities/schools for short periods of time?
Any info would be gratefully received!

Re: Teaching abroad for a month

I work part time for a company that does this kind of thing.

It depends what you want: do you want to earn money or volunteer?

You'd be hard-pressed to find a paid placement in any of the countries you've mentioned for such a short period of time... there are so many qualified TEFL teachers out there looking for long-term contracts that no-one's gonna take you on for that short a time-frame, when it'll just disrupt their students.

There are several companies (such as the one i work for) who can also place you in volunteer positions for a fee, and it can be a very rewarding experience, maybe more rewarding 'cos u won't be working for some money-grabbibg language school! There's definitely placements in a couple of the places you mentioned, as well other countries in Asia and a whole bunch of other placs, too. Moat companies provide some sort of TEFL training as part of the fee, too.

You should check out the JET programme, you to get teach in Japan. Although, I believe it's a year long programme. They pay around 50000 yen a month to cover living costs, insurance, etc plus salary is around 3500000 yen
