LoveFilm lost disk!

A disk I posted back on the 2nd April is still not showing as back with them and a disk I posted yesterday morning has already been booked back in and the next film is currently being dispatched.

I started to fill out a problem report and they ask where you posted the disk, post box / post office, collection point (eg post tray in work) or other.
The truth is collection point (eg post tray in work), but I have a feeling if I say this they will say it's been nicked and make me pay for the disk.

Any experiences with this?

Thanks.

Not good news for you i'm afraid, ultimately, they will require proof of postage, without this they will indeed charge you for the disk.

Thought as much, but who ever gets proof of postage when returning a LoveFilm disk as they provide the return envelope for you to just post in the post box?

Re: LoveFilm lost disk!

I would just tell them it was posted in a post box. They lose discs all the time, and sometimes they don't get them back for up to 2 weeks. I cancelled my subs with them when they became unreliable.

They do state in the T&C that all disks must be returned with proof of postage.

Of course nobody does until.... they are in your shoes and find out the hard way. I had a similar experience with Boomerang where the disk went walkabout. Nowadays, I always send them with proof to cover myself.

Re: LoveFilm lost disk!

I've posted loads back from work with the post tray and never had a problem before. There is a chance some toerag in the office stole it, but it's more likely the post office have lost it IMHO.

I've filled out the form and will wait and see what happens... All they have said so far is a standard response, thanks for letting them know I have return the disk they will update my rental list and send out the next film...

Re: LoveFilm lost disk!

May have just got delayed in the system, have to admit I've been a member with them for years and I can't recall them ever not receiving a disc. I remember once I never received a film they sent and I had to fill out a form for Royal Mail to say I didn't receive it I guess so they can claim on Royal Mail.

I don't bother with proof of postage myself it's would be far to tedious, given they are forever trying to recruit new members with free rental I doubt they would try and charge you for the film let's face it it's better for them to write of the cost than potentially lose you as a member I would say.

They lost my disc once when I returned it. I filled out the form saying I'd posted it back and they never said anything else after that just sent me my next disc out.

Re: LoveFilm lost disk!

They usually ask for your assistance in getting compo from the post office or they will charge for the disc.

The help usually involves filling out a form they send you from the post office which asks when and where did you post it.All post boxes have a number on them for identification.

I have had an account with love film for 14 months and have had around 150 films, one got lost from them to me and one from me to them(not bad really).

This is spot on. I've had two go missing en route to me and both times just filled in the Royal Mail form that they send you and everything is fine. In the Lovefilm T&Cs it is a requirement to comply with any requests from Royal Mail.

Not had any missing going back but I always get proof of postage so I guess the first time I don't ......

Re: LoveFilm lost disk!

As has been said, I'm not going to go to the post office every time I want to send a film back just to get the proof I've posted it. This totally takes away the easiness of the whole process which makes it a great service.
To be honest if they are going to charge me for the disk and the fact that the Royal Mail are always losing post (I guess I've been lucky up to now) I'd rather cancel the subs and go to Blockbusters whenever I want a film as that won't take any longer than queuing up in the post office to get the POP.

Fingers crossed I'll hear no more.

Not that I would encourage any deceit but are you sure it went missing between you and love film and not when it was on the way to you

Re: LoveFilm lost disk!

Looks like this all depends on who you happen to speak to at the time. It was Lovefilm I dealt with previously and not Boomerang as I thought.

They demanded proof of postage and this went on for 2 weeks... Just reading old emails and it got to the stage where they finally caved in and started sending disks once again.

They insisted that I get proof in future

Re: LoveFilm lost disk!

Alright, a bit deceitful but if you are certain that you posted it back then it's just a small moral dilemma for you to deal with.

Post the next one back and get a 'Proof of Postage'. Then use that 'Proof of Postage' to support the missing original disk.

Obviously, have to wait a while for it to become missing.

Cheers,

Nigel

Re: LoveFilm lost disk!

I wouldn't get proof of sending for returning a Lovefilm DVD. It would be a total hassle considering how long you have to queue up for in post offices now a days.

If they started demanding it I'd cancel my account right away.

Re: LoveFilm lost disk!

I've never used proof of postage and had no problems

they don't get proof of postage when sending out do they ???

thats one issue I did have though one disc went missing betweem them and myself ...

I had to fill out a RM form they sent .. .but I wasn't happy as I had no proof that they'd sent it

and if they had not - the form I had to fill out for RM would have been fraud ...

if that makes sense ?

This is why I miss the amazon dvd rental service. I had a few disks go missing out of probably 150+ and all I ever did was click the appropriate button on the website and replacement/next disk sent out very quickly. No hassle, no fuss

Service was excellent and I really miss it!

Which is exactly the same as the lovefilm service....had 2 or 3 go missing when i was with them. Just check the box next to the one that went missing, they send out another.

Re: LoveFilm lost disk!

As I started this thread and it's re-appeared, thought I'd provide a quick update... As soon as I filled out the web form to say the disk had been returned they emailed me to say thanks for letting them know, they'd update my account and post the next disk out to me. That's exactly what happened and I've heard no more. Great service.

As others have said if they'd tried to make me pay for the disk, I'd of cancelled my subs as I'm not queuing up in the post office to send a disk back every time.

Same here. Amazon rental was always better than LF. I got new DVD's the day after the release day all the time. That has never happened with LF.

Nothing wrong with lovefilm. Had 2 blurays go missing last week. Ok I had to wait until the 4 days was up (allowing for possible delays), but then reported them and my list got updated straight away. The proof of postage thing is nonsense...

Re: LoveFilm lost disk!

You dont need to get proof of postage, just report it to Love film. Its happened to me recently and they report it to Royal Mail (thieving gits) who sends you a form to fill out, but Love film claim from the thieving gits (Im frustrated that the few bad apples get away with the thieving).

Glad that yours was found though.

Re: LoveFilm lost disk!

I had a similar experience with Boomerang Game Rentals, I sent a game back and after a week they still hadn't received it back so I fired an email off to them. They responded that RM do lose stuff and did I have proof of postage, which they advise you use, I said no stuck straight in the post box.

As I didn't have proof of postage all they asked was to stay with them for at least another 3 months so they could recuperate the loss through my subs.

Seem a fair deal to me as have no intention of leaving them.

As for games going missing after been sent to me, this has happen to me this week. Emailed them and they will send a form out to me in 15 days (RM rules) for me to fill in so they can claim the loss from RM.

Re: LoveFilm lost disk!

I don't understand why anyone would bother with love films. Blockbuster do 4 films for a tenner monday to Thursday & you keep them for 5 nights. Also if you are late returning films they will wipe the fine as long as you take another film out on return. Seems like a better deal to me.

That is expensive. I was down to renting DVD and BD at 80p per rental from LF and BB doesn't have that deal all the time. The deals often only last a few weeks.

Atm, I am using a BB offer that came through the post of 7 rentals for £4.99 and have 2 left to use up by 31st May.
