i will start with mine

me and the wife were walking to Grand Central Station New York and i found myself walking next to Spike Lee.

i said " alreyt Spike "

he said hi and then asked if we were from England.

i said " yes mate we're from Sheffield "

" and is this your wife " he asked

" yes " says I

" cool, i see you married a sista " ( the wifes black )

" well take care my man " shakes hand walks off

wife says " who was that ?" i explained who he was

" never heard of him " says she.

Re: Famous people you have met or know

I once took Jakkie Degg of page 3 fame skiing in Norway (pictured below) along with Leah Newman also a model. Chris Waddle was there but he didn't get out of the wagon as his tootsies were cold, incidentally we spent most of the evening before calling Chris 'Glen' and we rigged up a banner in the bar that said 'Welcome Jakkie, Leah and Glenn Hoddle'!

Jakkie Degg, nice to look at but not all that bright:

I was in a bar where Mick Skinner of England Rugby fame was drinking and people were getting autographs and he was loving it so I put him down a bit when I said 'see you later Mr Beaumont' when he left...

Re: Famous people you have met or know

I have met a few famous people over the years, 2 that stand out are:-

George Foreman who was a guest speaker at my firms 10th Anniversary function in New York. Found it absolutely bizarre at the end of the function sitting round a small table with him and a few others talking about boxing, just as you would sitting in a bar with some mates. A real gent who unlike some would go out of their way for fans.

2nd is Vic Reeves and was a little funny, I was waiting in the entrance of WH Smith in Maidstone, Kent for my wife and he caught my eye, firstly he just looked familiar and I was trying to put a name to the face, he walked closer and I realized. He looked awkward as has probably been in that position thousands of times and I did not know what to say, we both managed an awkward smile and that was that until....

Next day 5 miles away in the Rochester branch of Toys R Us, had finished paying for my goods and returned to my car. Walked to the boot and Vic Reeves was loading his boot next to me. I thought a little quicker this time and accused him of stalking me He was with his much younger (and very attractive partner)

Did not really have a conversation, but was funny.

Played pool with dave Courtney in Charlton, met Brooke Kinsella in Cyprus, was kissed on the cheek as a toddler in GOSH by Princess Di, met Wendy Richards, Phil Daniels, Jack Ryder and as a teenager, my best mate's dad was Pat Murray (Mickey pearce in OFAH).

In work capacity, I have talked with Jack Straw, Malcolm Rifkind and Douglas Alexander.

Re: Famous people you have met or know

I once had dinner at the same table as Catherine Zeta Jones - who was lovely.

I did 'knuckles' with Goldie at a party.

In work, I've given presentations to many politicians, mostly the Welsh ones, or Welsh Secretaries, but also the President of Ireland Mary McAleese.

I spoke to Arthur C Clarke via satellite phone.

I bumped into Jonathan King in New York once - when he discovered I was English he seemed very keen to stand in front of me grinning. I pretended not to know who he was.

Danny John Joules, who played the Cat in red dwarf spent a lot of time in my local pub when I lived in Somerset. He came to several of the local parties - we even 'shared' a girl. Not the same night mind

Re: Famous people you have met or know

I lived across the road from a recording studio in Chalk Farm. When I was about 15-16 I was well into 2 tone. We knew that a band we liked (The Beat)were going to be recording there so me and my mates showed up. They invited us in, we watched them record their album. We were the "clappers" on their single, Too Nice To Talk To .At about 2.25 in this video is me and my mates . Im the one with the dark hair in the black bomber jacket. They looked after us for a couple of weeks, taking us to see the album being pressed, took us to see Aretha Franklin at The Astoria .

Worked as a postie in Hampstead. If it counts, I "met" Glynys Barber,Judy Dench and her husband Mike Williams,George Michael.Roy Hattersley, he was giving a speech at an unveiling of a blue plaque. I pushed through the crowd to post a letter, he made some remark about how the post must get through .
Oh and I met Bing off of Brookside up in Liverpool . And I was in a kebab shop with Rhino AKA Keith Stevens of Millwall after a night out at The Duncow on the Old Kent Road ....about 20!!!! years ago http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IarQsEd0mLg

Re: Famous people you have met or know

I met Lenny Henry years and years ago in Blackpool after a show (I was only a kid ) not long after he's won new faces, and he was lovely; friendly, chatty, bubbly, a really nice lad.

Then I met him again many (15??) years later when in the audience of something Dawn french was recording, when he was sat next to me. Then he was the most obnoxious, ignorant arrogant man you could imagine.

But I'm sure fame hasn't changed him

I met the late, great Brian Clough when he was manager at Forest, after a reserve match one evening (I'm a Derby fan), and after, I went to see if I could get his autograph. He asked me if I'd enjoyed it, and I mumbled something about no, as I was a Derby fan there with a Forest mate, and he (literally) collared a few of the more famous players who were there to come and sign their autographs for me.
He made my year Top bloke!

Met a few famous people over the years but 3 of the most memorable are:

Meeting Floyd Patterson in a hotel lift, and chatting to him until we reached the bar area.

Had my dinner with Pat Jennings when I was 11, and got to take shots at him out in his garden.

Martin O'Neill bought me a drink one evening. I was working in a bar next to Hayes FC and he was manager of Wycombe at the time.

I used to be good friends with Gary Hailes who used to star on Eastenders years ago.

I nearly got knocked over by the actor Bill Nighy in a guitar shop in Tin pan alley a couple of weeks ago. We had a quick chat (Very nice guy by the way and a big Stones & Dylan fan!)

Maybe not exactly famous but I had Geno Washington's bass player round my house last Saturday!

Re: Famous people you have met or know

I once asked Johnny Depp to say "Suit You Sir!", much to his amusement.

I've lost track of how many "famous" people I've met, from pop/rock stars to football stars to movie stars to tv stars, but here goes with a few.

Dave Sharpe from The Alarm once got up and played a song with a band I played keyboards with back in the day, in a little Working Mens club in a Belfast back street. He invited us all to their gig the following night and back to their hotel suite afterwards. I hung out with Simple Minds on many an occasion and still keep in touch with Mick MacNeill, their keyboard player. I've partied with The Clash in Brixton. I sat next to Arsenal star Robin Van Persie in Burger King in Luton Airport last year. He was getting stuck into a Whopper meal, turned to me and said "It's good" and hammered on. I know Eamonn Holmes from we were both kids (and both thin!). I've met U2 a few times and Adam Clayton once gave me his shirt after an early gig in Belfast. I once got up on stage at a Stranglers gig in Belfast (along with quite a few others) but I was the only one allowed to stay onstage for the remainder of the gig and spent in between songs chatting to Dave Greenfield, their keyboard player (is there a theme developing here?). Me and my mates went backstage with Echo and the Bunnymen in Belfast and scoffed their rider. I had an argument with ex Man Utd player-turned-manager Mark Hughes in Heathrow airport. I met Father Ted himself, Dermot Morgan, also in Heathrow airport. It was shortly before he died, God rest his soul. I had a few drinks with Crystal Palace and Arsenal star Ian Wright when he was shooting a movie in Belfast a few years back.

But I don't like to talk about it.

I've met the Indian prime minister as well as a few other Indian politicians like Lalu Prasad. My uncle is a famous Indian politician and is good friends with the prime minister and invited him for his daughter's wedding (i.e my cousin). There was lots of security but my uncle allowed me and my sister to meet him. He's a nice gentle man. I only got to say hi though. lol This was last year during my summer holidays.

Re: Famous people you have met or know

When I was a lad, about 6 I think, maybe a couple of years older, I nearly broke Sir Matt Busbys leg... I opened the car door on him as me and me dad were getting out of the car to visit the United shop at old trafford... I had no idea who he was at the time, and simply apologised to 'the old bloke'... my dad could barely speak...!
We then went into the shop, my dad asked if he was in, he was, and he signed an older FA Cup program for me... although I think it may have made my dads day more...!!

Re: Famous people you have met or know

I worked in Heathrow T4 bookshops as a student so i used to serve a fair few celebs . The one that sticks out in my mind was the late Dudley Moore , who i said hello to as i served him and he said hello back . Seconds later he was engulfed by a gaggle of ladies of a certain age who i worked with , who asked him if he was on the lookout for chickens . He took their inane question with humour and good grace , although i'm sure he'd been asked the same thing about a hundred times already that day .

I've met a lot of so called famous people.

It has always amazed me how small and ugly they are in real life

My girlfriend who is senior cabin crew for a major airline meets all sorts and is like me, never impressed.
