Dont they get on your nerves sometimes, I mean how hard is it spell out the correct word, I'm not talking about lol, or pmsl or anything, I'm talking when speaking about people or movies.
I have seen posts that talk about TC or JC or ME or KZ or BP or KoOTR I mean..........wow, who actually knows if they are talking about the right person or thing?

HI,
With the odd exception, most acronyms or abbreviations should be obvious, from the thread that the post in question has been placed in.
For example, when the LORD OF THE RINGS series came out, most of the films were abbreviated to:
LOTR - Lord Of The Rings
TFOTR - Part 1: The Fellowship Of The Ring
TTT - Part 2: The Two Towers
TROTK - Part 3: The Return Of The King
I agree, that it shouldn't be difficult to write out some abbreviations in full, but then that's the point of an abbreviation - to save time writing the whole thing out.
If you can point to examples that aren't clear to you, then people on the Forums will happily do our best to help you work out what the abbreviations mean.
EDIT: I'll try to work out some of the abbreviations you mentioned in your original post. Their meanings will depend on which thread they were posted in, however!:
TC - Thread Count
KoOTR - Computer game: Knights Of The Realm? or Kingdom of The Realm?
GC - General Chat
OP - Original Poster / Original Post (the person who started the thread, usually)
Pooch

Pooch | KotOR = Knights of the Old Republic, maybe OP was a typo?
I can't think of a KoOTR...
I agree people are too lazy to write things out, sometimes i'll use them but generally only the obvious ones people know, such as OP
It annoys me more when people use 'text speak' on forums/the internet.
It's acceptable in a text message if you need to fit it all into one message... but I never use it myself, not even in text messages.
But I agree the use of these is increasing and sometimes it can be a little confusing. It's easier if they're used in the right context; a thread on Jeremy Clarkson for example, starts talking about him, then people refer to him as JC - it's obvious that they're referring to him that way.

Yeah I get most of them, like LOTR and all that but its when they start talking about people and places and films that it gets quite confusing sometimes and I find myself quite often asking for the real spelling. There was one movie thread about Lord of the Rings I think were one guy was talking about TC. Turns out he was talking about Tom Cruise

Have to say i don't like it but do abbreviate a lot on here, but it's obvious as it's connected to the thread it's in.
I don't use txt speak anywhere, never on my phone because i can't understand it, i have enough trouble with lol and the like so i have no chance with txt garbage..

TXT speak is likely to earn you an infraction, who wants one

Typing something like LOTR is just a form of convenience and a genuine "abbreviation", and not text speak imo
