Santander AKA Abbey How to pee off customers

To say I am angry is an understatement let me vent my spleen. Had a telephone call at 7.40 tonight from Santander collections department asking me why I missed my payment last month, what am I going to do about it, telling me that I would get 3 telephone calls a day chasing payment.

Right heres the rub for me. I have spent best part of 2k on my card in the last year in various lumps always paying off previous months balance leaving nil balances each time.

Last month I inadvertenly threw out my statement and forgot to pay the balance which was £82, when this months statement arrived I had the late charge added fair enough I have qualms with the charge. But tonight to get a phone call and being grilled as to why and what I would be paying on which dates was akin to police interview for a hidious crime.

The caller was quite frankly quite bullish in his atittude I quick made my point very clear that I did not like his tone and told him that when I pay and how much I pay is none of his or Santander business as long as I pay either the minimum or the full balance. Bloody cheeky bairstairs

What galls me I have a savings account with several thousand pounds and a current account that is in credit and with no overdraft. Whilst not being rich I am financially solvent and if Sandtander bothered to check these details before ringing me. I told them that you have no right to lecture me about debt when banking industry is in such a mess. I am fuming to say the least to the point, next due payment date will be in full and I will cancel my card.

Anyone else had this type of call??

Re: Santander AKA Abbey How to pee off customers

there are rules for chasing money, its a criminal offence to harass someone which if they are threatening to call you 3 times a day i would call harasment

complain about this

as a general rule ALWAYS setup a direct debit to pay at least the minimum payment on credit cards and ideally all of it, the penalty's they charge for missing a payment are criminal imo ..

You don't use the card that much and pay off the balance each month so are effectively using it as a free convenience. How much time do you honestly expect their staff to spend researching your background before asking you about your missed payment

I have a sneaking suspicion that if we heard Santander's side of the story it would be somewhat different. I wonder why they told you that they would harrass you unless it was in response to something that you said

Ian What I have stated was the facts there is "no sneeky suspicion" In fact I spoke with the Sandanter/Abbey complaints department this morning, who actually have said that they are sorry for the phone call and promised to investigate further. In response to your comment about me using the Abbey credit for my convenience yes you are right its called playing the game and ensuring that my cash stays in my bank for the most amount of time I can.

As you are Mod please close this thread as my original post was to gauge if this is a new tactic to collect monies by the banks on small amounts
