Cost of wood?

Hello all,

I'm feeling rather industrious and seeing that I have always had a desire to keep chickens, I am going to knock up a chicken coup and pen. I'm just trying to price it up. I have worked out a few plans from a couple of guides on the web and require about 27m of 4cm x 2 cm and 7m of 4cm x 4cm. So the question is...

How much does wood cost? Is it worth the effort? What can I expect to pay for say 30m of 4cm x 2cm and 10m of 4cm x 4cm.

also what wood would you guys suggest? I'm guessing I just need bog standard treated roofing baton wood and I will obviously varnish/treat it once assembled.

Anyone able to offer advice?

Cheers guys,

Rob

Weatherproof the roof.
Locally there used to be a little "The Wood Shop" but it closed recently.
They sold rejects of all kind, eg. unintentionally curved posts etc. which would be fine for the purpose. The area though is a port, roof triangle assembly and shed/garden furniture manufacturers, so a shop like that was well positioned.
