Anyone else having a bad year?

Hi, so... my year started with me spenidng NYE/NYD in A&E. I got attacked and ended up with a badly broken nose, several cracked teeth and lots of blood and bruising. I recently found out my cat's got cancer. And my longest ever relationship ended this week with my girlfriend dumping me completely out the blue, I'm absolutely heart-broken.

My brother was diagnosed with a crushed spine last year, it's been getting a lot worse this year, he currently needs to use a tens unit nearly everyday. My gran got ill over christmas and has got worse, not better, although she's still doing well considering it's her 94th birthday next week.

What else is this year gonna throw at me! I really feel like I can't cope. At least I've still got a job to go to, although it is very quiet atm and pretty much all I'm doing all day is sitting here thinkin about my ex

Someone give me some words of encouragement!

Sorry to hear that mate, thought I was having a bad year, doesn't quite seem it after reading that. At least you've got your health and your job.

You've also still got your Brother and your Nan so try focusing on at least them 2 positives and spend as much time with them as you can, while you can.....

As for the G.F, sod her, plenty more fish in the sea..... Use the fact you've got the job and some money to treat some/alot of girls to some "good times"

Good luck.

Re: Anyone else having a bad year?

Keep your head up fella, the GF might be gone but if that's the case, she wasn't right, and you'll find someone better in time. GFs come and go, family isn't like that, concentrate on them at the moment.
Memories with family are ones that will never fade, ex's, they vanish into the cloudy past.

As said above spend time with your family and don't worry about things on the relationship front, you've got plenty of time and choice when it comes to that and it's not that important in retrospect.
Right now your family need you and you need them.

Take only good from it, think yourself lucky it wasn't dragged out and messy, sure it hurts but you can take plenty of good from it.
It's one less drain on your resources too so it's not all that bad in these times!

little note: don't ask here for advice when you find a new girl you like, if you've seen the recent threads you'll understand why

Re: Anyone else having a bad year?

Really sorry to hear about your bad start to the year.
I'd suggest reading a book call Change your life in 7 days by Paul McKenna.

It has some really good tips on how to look at things positively. It's not about making drastic changes to your life and suitable for anyone to read even if you think your life is great at the moment. The CD is also good to help you relax.

I really hope things start to improve for you, as for the GF, as has already been said, forget about her and move on, remember the good times, but don't dwell on them, use the time to have some fun.

Re: Anyone else having a bad year?

lol I've always found this place pretty handy with advice though

The main thing that gets me with my ex is how sudden it was, completely took me by surprise. When I was with her I, I was either seeing her or staying at home. Saw mates maybe once a week? I've told myself I'm going to do everything I'm invited to from now on, even if it's just to take my mind off it!

As it's my grans birthday I'm hoping to get her away for a little meal next week with my mum and brother, I've taken the day off for it, hopefully she'll be able to make it as she hasn't been eating properly lately.

It's hard to stay positive! Got a call from mum earlier saying she has to have a tooth taken out in a couple of weeks, nothing major, but again not bloody good news!

Argh... I guess things can only get better although I don't wanna jinx it, so... I never said that, right

If we had the technical specs on them instead of just the physical dimensions then we'd all be a lot better at advice!!!

Personally I'd be happy with an online review facility, the Phil Hinton Video Review

For the Op, chin up mate, since the start of the year I'm losing my hearing due to Menieres Disease - and having to wait 5 weeks for hearing aids, my washing machine blew up, someone drove into my car and I lost the ability to earn my second income, which recently was outstripping my main income by a grand a month. apart from that everything is just peachy

Re: Anyone else having a bad year?

Theres very little advice anyone is going to give that will make you feel much different about your ex, only thing I can say is given time it will get easier.

Try to think of this as an opertunity to make some changes for the better so when you bump into her down the line she will realise that you have not moped around but got on with things and been positive, she will admire that in you and its better to be admired than pitied.

Do something new, push yourself something like an evening course / language try to fill your life with stuff so you can live it to the full.

Sorry about all the bad luck, I know how hard it is mate my Saint Bernard has just been diagnosed with cancer too, you have my sympathy as im sure you will find many that wont offer it (just a cat etc) I am just starting treatment next week on my boy, if you need any advice my OH works at a vets and maybe she can help you with any questions you have.

Chin up mate

Re: Anyone else having a bad year?

Mate, go and have real nasty nooky with the ex's sister or best mate, or both. Maybe your nan could give you some advice or something to cheer you up given that she is nearly a hundred years old! I bet she has some great stories!
I'm sure I speak for everyone here when I wish your brother all the best and a happy birthday to Nan!
Above all, try not to take everything personally mate and try to treat yourself for a while.

No worries, 2008 was really bad as well TBH. I had about 10 months off work with the illness At the end of the day its all about whether the good things in your life outweigh the bad. I have a lovely family, people who love me, a great bunch of friends and I live in a land of plenty with lots of great AV gear (even if I cant bloody hear it LOL). However bad things seem, if you take stock you can always find some things, usually the REALLY important things to be grateful for !
