Exercise Bike Magnetic Resistance

Dusted off the Reebok RB2000 clothes horse, fitted new batteries & discovered that the resistance doesn't change any more. When stepped up from the control panel there is a faint, constant buzz from within the main housing but the resistance remains on minimum. I'm guessing that something is stuck due to lack of use.

Not had much in the way of support from Reebok in the past so anyone have any knowledge of how these things work, before I spread bits all over the floor?!

Hi Crocodile
Got the same problem with the Reebok RB2000 ie the magnetic resistance.
Did you ever resolve it?

I thought I had a PDF but if I did, I can't find it now.

Essentially, the resistance is varied by a stepper motor that moves the magnet in a channel. I think my problem was caused by storing the bike with a high resistance setting. This seemed to cause the cable/magnet to stick in that position. IIRC, I just fiddled around with the magnet & cable (maybe some WD40) until it moved more freely. You will need to remove the covers to gain access.

There may be some info on removing covers in the manual if you have it, as I seem to recall that there was some info on adjusting the belt tension in there.

Reebok is a brand of Icon Fitness so you could always contact them.

Icon Health & Fitness Europe

Hope that helps.

Is there any sign of the motor working? Mine would buzz a I tried to change the resistance.

If yours is doing nothing at all, it would be worth checking the cable that runs between the computer & the bike body before you pull the covers off. It runs down the handlebar stem so that would need to come off.
