hi, we got a ford ka last week but only got one key with it, the black one with the red chip in top. timpsons said they could cut us another from that and program. ive read around and some people say that doesnt work as you need the red master key. has anyone done this? thanks.

Re: ford ka keys

AIUI, it IS possible to clone that key, and it will work, what won't be possible, is to program new keys using those keys...

Re: ford ka keys

The key you have is the master key, I have one like that with my Mondeo. The red plastic bit hides the transponder. I think they're blue on later models.

It's possible to program the remote central locking on a new key using the key you have. However, to program the immobiliser yourself, you'll need a third key.

Have a word with your local Ford dealer and see how much they charge. I bought a key off Ebay and my kindly Ford dealer cut it for me for nothing.

If you get a key (with remote locking) cut it will open the door manually and you can sync it with the remote central locking so that works. It won't start the car though, as you need a third key to program the immobiliser.

Re: ford ka keys

The red key is the main "Master" key. If you would like another making they can "clone" the key ( around £25 from Timpson) if yuor only looking for a key to open you door then any standard "ford" key will do at around £5 each.

You will be paying more for a "transponder" key which is the chip+ its housing.

thanks,we dont have the red master key we just have one black key with red chip in corner, so they can clone a key from that and the immobilser would work?

Re: ford ka keys

Yes, you can make a key from the mainly black with the red mark ( where the transaponder is located).
The key will be a "clone" from yours. This will set you back £25 (£30 max) depending on the shop.

This will work with your cars ignition doors etc

or

Butcher you key remove transponder chip stick it behind your key barrell and your new key will cost a fiver ( no programming is needed , only a simply blank) .

If you car is stolen you will have to explain why you disabled your cars security.

my 2p worth.
