Re: DVD Catalogue Software

yep.. ust hit the 50 dvd limit and its limited some of the features but it seems to be really good, I tried adding Max & paddys to 2 different pieces of software and dvd profiler was the only one that found it...

hmm to buy or not to buy.

I choose not to buy, I really did see worth it.. I can keep track of 'whats what' as I have around 350 DVD, 13 Blue rays, 2 HD DVD's. When its gets to big, I will think about it

The one I haven't uninstalled so far is All My Movies.

Keep an eye on GiveAwayOfTheDay as they've featured a few in the past.

Have you tried My Movies - Home

It is media centre plug in, but it allows you to catalog your dvd's using barcodes. And if you ever decide to store some of them on your PC, you can just link the catalog entry to the file to play it from MCE.

I've always wondered, why do this? Why not just organise them on the shelf/storage space?

Re: DVD Catalogue Software

Try DVDpedia. It is not free, but well worth it, since before getting it, I had bought several DVDs that were already in my collection, so now have two of them.
I bought Bookpedia at the same time, to list my books. Very useful too.

Dvdpedia has a facility where it automatically sends out a reminder to the person to whom you have lent the DVD.
It works very well, and saves losing them.

I lent a friend a dvd once.

Months later he bought it round, i thought he wanted to watch it. When he was leaving, i said you've left your dvd - he said "its yours" I had no idea!

Anyway, If i had a dvd catalogue software i would of known he was overdue with my property.

Or i could of written it on a peice of paper.....

Re: DVD Catalogue Software

A lot of it will be down to which one you prefer after trying a few but i like and use this one.

DVD Database software, catalog your DVDs & Blu-Ray discs

Apart from the corny name it's a good well supported app.

Edit: Heard good things abput this app from a couple of freinds though Libra | DVD, Book, Audio CD, Game library organizer software

And it's free

Re: DVD Catalogue Software

Ive gone for DVD Profiler.. the only real problem is all the codes need to be input manually as it doesnt have a webcam barcode scanner built in..

but I should only have to do this once and Ill recruit the misses to read em out to me

One thing I dont like about this is that the actor pictures are not automatic which is a little poor.

I think this proves that you should:

1) Never lend stuff out, to people you can't trust 100%, and/or

2) Never lend stuff out, and then forget to chase them up over it... vehemently!

I do lend DVD's to people, but I do have very strict rules about this. Namely:

1) You can only borrow for a set amount of time, defined between me and the person wanting to borrow it. After that, I will ask you if you've seen it all, and/or if you wish to borrow it for longer. If you don't, then I expect it to be returned within a reasonable time, usually 2 weeks on average.

2) Some titles are verbotten for loan from me, no matter what! Usually, the more valuable titles, the rarities, and the ones that can't be replaced, because they are deleted now.

3) Any DVD I lend you, will be returned in the exact same 100% perfect condition it is loaned to you in, and if not, I will a) ban you from borrowing any of my discs again, permanently, and b) not only will you replace the disc with the same identical version, but if that happens to cost you more than I originally paid for it, well, tough! You should have looked after it much more carefully in the first place!

Sometimes you have to be cruel to be kind!

Thumbs up Re: DVD Catalogue Software

Hi,

Thanks folks!

Well, in my defence, yes I do still have friends who I loan stuff out too, but then they know what the rules are, and agree with them. I don't think it's unfair to ask - what is essentially a normal thing - which is for people to look after your stuff, and return it in a timely fashion, and in the same condition it was loaned out to you in. Is that too much to ask, really?

I value my DVD collection, both in terms of what the titles all mean to me on a personal, non-fiancial level, as well as their actual financial cost. I don't buy DVD's just for people to then trash them. If that's what they want, then they can indeed naff-off to Blockbusters, where their selections will cost them the best part of £4 per night, and the choice of anything that's not "mainstream" will be limited to.... Well, in your average Blockies, not very much at all, that is different, exciting, or innovative in terms of film-making!

Ultimately, it's all about respecting other people's possessions.

Re: DVD Catalogue Software

Nearly all of my DVD's are in mint condition (except a couple of ex-rental ones) and generally only left their case once as I rip them to my computer as an ISO.

I've never been a big fan of lending out videos, dvds, games anything like that, mostly cause I don't trust people enough to take care of them.

If I was to lend them out, i'd be exactly like Pooch, i'd expect them to come back in the same condition they left in... if you're playing a DVD there's not much that can happen to it for it to get damaged.

When it's someone elses property you make sure that it's looked after.

Interesting to look at some of the pieces of software, been looking for some myself lately.

Re: DVD Catalogue Software

I once worked with someone who considered that paperback books were essentially designed for one read only. Consequently, if you'd read it and lent it to someone else, you weren't really expecting to get it back in good condition if at all, as you were passing it on because you'd finished it.

He then seemed surprised and slightly disgruntled when I refused to lend him a book I was recommending to people as a good read
