Flying In Style

I seen the advert on tv there for qantus airlines. Looks really fancy, Ive been to 5 star hotels that dont look as nice as their first class suites.

I priced a week in melbourne for 2 people. £6000 quid for 1st class.

Is there anybody here that would actually pay that.

Re: Flying In Style

If i'm going to be on a plane for almost a day, i'd want more than a week holiday...

I think it's more "can" you pay that.

For what is almost a 24hr flight I think people would, I would rather pay slightly less and go for there business class.

Re: Flying In Style

After flying round the world business class for our honeymoon, and then recently flying to NYC in economy, I'm seriously tempted to spend more money on flights next time I go anywhere. Being able to sleep properly on a plane and feel like a human being when you arrive and not losing 2 / 3 days due to jet lag seems worth it to me. Maybe not at £6k though!

not sure what price you looked up, but...

they only fly the 380 from London to Sydney currently

and the price they are listing is £8114 per person for 1st class return

We went to Sydney for Christmas 2007 and flew cattle class. I did briefly toy with the idea of upgrading but was put off by the extra £9,000 for the three of us and we managed to have a fortnight in Spain at Easter, a fortnight in Cyprus in the summer and a fortnight in Lanzarote this Christmas using the money I saved by not upgrading to First Class

my sister-in-law and family went to the Australian gold coast for Christmas. Flew Business Class to Brisbane. She said they could have bought a very nice car for what it cost them.

Re: Flying In Style

I was looking at tickets back to South Africa for a holiday in April time, was looking at £675 for cattle class for a 13hr flight and £900 for business. Some destinations its not such a huge difference in price between the different classes.

Re: Flying In Style

I'd never pay to upgrade, but I have upgraded myself a few times using airmiles / flying club.

IMO once you've flown in premium/business then going back to cattle class is torture, but I still can't justify the price increase to pay for it myself. Moving to Oz in May and flying cattle class the whole way.

Re: Flying In Style

Luckily about 8.5 years ago, I got to work in Aus (Perth) for a few weeks, making 2 round trips in total. The company I worked for at the time had a contract policy that coz it was Perth, i.e. Western Aus, it was economy only for business travel. If I had gone with them to Syndey, as a colleague did, it would be business class default coz of the extra journey time.

However, I bucked the trent for Perth, buy my height I'm 6'7", and went to see one of the directors at the time, and he signed it off for me going business class.

So had 2 trips, one with Quantas, one with Malaysian. Must admit, Malaysian was better, food, seats, and amenities (TV and video and that in flight, and lounges at airports). The lounge at Kuala Lumpar airport is amazing, absolutely huge

Anyway, I learnt from this, for a distance like that, Business Class was the only choice for me. So 2 year later, I went back there on hols, and paid about £2500 for business class, with Malaysian. And in terms of 24 hours in a planes, I am glad I did it

Re: Flying In Style

I've got time off in March and having spent a pleasant fortnight in the Maldives in October for the last two years thought I might look at another break there in March, even though it's peak season. I came across this bargain holiday, two weeks bed and breakfast with buisness class flights. It includes 5% online discount

OUCH!!!!!!

Who pays this kind of money for a holiday??
