Recommend me a weekend away!

Looking for somewhere in the UK to spend the weekend away with the other half, probably in the next 4-6 weeks.

I've been going around and around now for a while and have come up with Bath (or Baaarth, for the southerners amongst us!)
Any other recommendations? we are pretty easy going but don't fancy the Lake District in the cold snap!

Prefer boutique/modern hotels..............

Thanks All.......

Re: Recommend me a weekend away!

Stratford-Upon-Avon is wonderful but it's a lot more enjoyable in the summer especially as you can go on a boat trip etc if you want and it's just such a beautiful place in the sun... saying that, summer doesn't quite guarantee that these days.

York and Barf are too good choices, Scotland an option?
Edinburgh seemed nice from what I saw of it.

Re: Recommend me a weekend away!

We went to the Bedruthan Steps Hotel in Cornwall. It's a fabulous place. It has a pool and a spa. You can also book treatments for the spa (I suggest book before you arrive - you can see what there is via the website).

It is a family friendly hotel but the emphasis is also on those travelling without children and strikes a nice balance.

Children are allowed (supervised, of course,) in the pool, but are not allowed in the spa. Also, families with very young children dine seperately to those without children.

The food is very good. The rooms are very comfortable too. There is also some evening entertainment.

Re: Recommend me a weekend away!

Bath is an excellent choice, not only for the city itself but its surroudning areas. I lived nearby for about ten years (now live up on merseyside) and i'm taking my girlfriend and her folks down that way for her mums birthday at the end of february.

Bath is a cracking place to look around and you have to check out the pump house, really interesting place. Aroudn bath theres some great places to see, Castle Coombe where we are staying is stunning, as is Lacock. Eating wise theres some good pubs that do very good food in nearby villages.

Re: Recommend me a weekend away!

Being a local yokel, thoroughly recommend Bath and the surrounding area. It depends on what you enjoy doing (i.e. sightseeing) as to what you'll enjoy. Castle Combe and Lacock (my nan lives there) are both quaint National Trust villages about 30 minutes drive away. Wells is about a 15 minute drive, Bristol 30 mins away for shopping (Cabot Circus and/or Cribbs Causeway if thats your bag), Weston-super-Mare if you fancy a day by the beach and the Cotswolds less than an hour away.

If you enjoy photography, I can point you in the direction of some good shooting locations.....
