My lot have demanded turkey. Not my choice though, I would have opted for a whole fillet, rolled in fresh herbs, salt and pepper, roasted medium rare, carved thinly. With Yorkshires...

Re: Turkey Or Something Else Tomorrow

Im cooking for 10 and doing a 25lb turkey and also 2 ducks, usually have a Goose aswell.

Will be served with a selection of winter veg, carrots, sprouts, peas, roast potatoes, honey roast parsnips, home made stuffing, pigs in blankets, bread sauce, cranberry sauce and a homemade plum sauce, followed by a choice of homemade pear tatin with a choc sauce or my own homemade melt in the middle 70 percent choc puddings or the obligatory christmas pud with cream.

Then champagne and a £50 box of Thorntons.

Guess that's why I'm craddock. I live to cook.

PS I am not eating any of it as I am having Christmas dinner with my partners sister and family, just have the family cooking to do as my parents are in ill health.

All have a fab xmas.

Jay

Re: Turkey Or Something Else Tomorrow

I wish I was having turkey.....I love Christmas dinner. But my Mum's trying to be 'alternative' and is doing.........lobster!!?!?!?!!?

Now I'm not saying I don't like it but its not very festive! I'm hoping the sherry, cheap crackers, Quality Street and Aldi mince pies make up for it.

I bet she still serves cranberry sauce........

Strangely, that's exactly what I'm cooking tomorrow, with some nice crisp roast potatoes and parsnips and green veg.I decided last year that the turkeys were tasteless,so I ordered a 2kg fillet from our local butcher who does wonderful beef. The only nod to christmas dinner is some pigs in blankets at the request of my kids. Now if I can only persuade everyone that very rare is the only way to eat this Chateaubriand I'll have a great Christmas.

What great taste Chateaubriand, delicious.

God knows What I am having at my mother in law to be's on Boxing day, she is french so I am guaranteed atleast to be paryletic on champagne and will no doubt gorge on pounds of Calissons, which quite frankly were it not for their cost I could happily live on.

My credit card already gets bashed importing boxes from Bienmanger, i am hooked.

Think yourself lucky with 5 brothers and sisters and 11 nephews and neices a 30lb turkey would be gone before boxing day at my mothers house.

I'm sure I'll love it and bless her for doing something different but its a potential disaster waiting to happen

She's never cooked it before and I won't be surprised if the fish alternative turns out to be fish fingers and beans when she realises its not as easy as Jamie/Gordon/Nigella makes it look

Never mind, 4lbs of chocolates and 3 litres of wine should see me through.....

Interestingly, my parents barbeque their turkey each year which generally avoids blandness quite nicely.

I'll be off down the RSPCA for a "turkey" a bit later on. I never have a shortage of legs.

Smelly you should ask your mother to serve it on a bed of crisp lametta.

Beef.

I'm having my very own rib of beef, done rare.

Everyone else is sharing a rolled sirloin joint, done medium.

Me Julie and Becks don't like turkey, so that's out, and we have chicken every other Sunday.

Oh, and we have a nice wine selection:

Bodega Catena Zapata Malbec 2006
Torreon do Paredes Merlot Reserva Privada 2005
Torreon do Paredes Cab Sav Reserva Privada 2006

Great wine list Pecker.

I nabbed 3 bottles of Veuve Cliquot 1999 Vintage with the 40 percent off coupon at Wine Rack.

Vintage champagne at £30 a bottle, bargain!

Lametta is also known as Angels Hair and usually found dangling from the branches of commoners Christmas trees. LOL

It's like very messy strands of wafer thin tinsel. My sister would always use it but she does overdo the tack at Xmas. I prefer understated and colour coordinated. Not the equivalent of the christmas tack aisle in your local Wilkinsons mixed with Blackpool illuminations.
