I happened to go into a local town today and had a look in Woolworths.

I have to say that it was a rather depressing affair. There was plenty of stock, and yet most of it seemed like tat, and that which wasn't was overpriced, even after the closing down discount.

I saw a Toy Story 2 DVD, and the price was £19.99. I don't care whether there was a further discount that I hadn't taken into account or not.

The store itself appeared unchanged from my last memories of going to a Woolworths, in Stockport, ten years ago. Then I walked in, just for a look, and they largely sold tat, or overpriced stuff that I might have wanted but could have walked a few metres down the street and bought cheaper. And the store looked rather 'scruffy'.

Todays was a different store, in a different town, and the story was the same. Only, the store was full of people, all looking to get a bargain (and there was no shortage of stock), and yet the queue at the tills was pitiful.

I feel terribly sorry for the staff, who appear to be loyal and hardworking. They have, in my opinion, been badly let down by their management.

Kind regards,

Damo

Jeez, seeing that list in black & white really hammers home just how many stores Woolworth had, my 2 local stores close down 27th December and 2nd January
