Credit Card Fraud

Hello

I have just noticed a series of fraudulent transactions on my credit card. They started on Saturday and have so far amounted to over £1,000.
I have been using my card for online purchases for years without problems, so I am trying to work out the likely possibilities.

Has anyone else had this happen and did you find out how?

Thanks

Re: Credit Card Fraud

Thanks

It isn't a major problem as the bank will sort it.

I have recently bought from a site I have never used before, so that could be the problem. Is there also the possibility my PC may have been "hacked" or whatever it is called
All my other purchases have been the usual, Morrisons, Asda, Play, Amazon, HMV etc.

Re: Credit Card Fraud

Unlikely that you will pinpoint where it went wrong. There are plenty of possibilities:

- a website you used got hacked
- a cashier at a shop you used cloned your card
- your card got cloned at a hacked cash point
- someone working for your card issuer stole your card details to use or sell on
- your card details have been randomly generated and used
- whatever else I don't know about

As your card company is sorting it out there is no need to worry. Just keep in mind where you used it lately and if this happens again just see if there is a place in common in each case.

True, I need not worry, but you know how it is when something like this happens

Re: Credit Card Fraud

a common way is to have some form of spyware on your pc that logged your details when you made a payment

the big growth area seams to be these fake anti virus sites that get you to pay a small fee and thus get your CC details

Re: Credit Card Fraud

Equally possible and very likely in my mind is the chance that someone has found a job at one of the web retailers you mentioned and has been able to make copies of people's details.
