Thanked Posts
I've never really understood as such why there are thanks on here, sure it's a nice/novel way to thank someone for helping etc, but that's not really why most people have their thanks, people get them for making jokes and such or a point someone agrees with.
So, what are your main reasons for giving out thanks when you do?
Generally i'll give them to people who answer a question I ask or help me with a problem.
Also is there a way to see who has the most / gave the most?
(probably is and it's glaringly obvious and im being an idiot for missing it?)
Sorry if this thread has been done thousands of times or isn't appropriate.

Re: Thanked Posts
There you go:
Have you been thanked more than this member
Now you are supposed to thank me...

Re: Thanked Posts
Hi,
I "Thank" someone, if they've been helpful to me, in a thread or post, whether that help be an answer to a specific question I've asked for help with, or indirectly, when they've simply offered up a solution to a problem that has helped me out in general.
I occasionally "Thank" someone, if they've offered up a very interesting post, or a great joke, or other such posting.
Other than that, I'm not sure why else you would "Thank" someone. I treat the "thanks" option, just as if I were thanking someone in real-life. Thank someone, only when it's relevant and/or appropriate.

Re: Thanked Posts
It's all trivial really though they don't really do much and I often hand them out for stuff that's not essentially fully helpful, i've just seen other people hand them out for stuff thats seemingly unworthy of a thank or anything, I just wondered what peoples mentality on it all was.
Nobody exactly cares about the thank count when taking advice from someone, I thought with it being a feature there'd be a table of most helpful and most appreciative people.

That's very true. The same could be applied to post counts too (ducks for cover).
Cheers

Re: Thanked Posts
I have got a slightly different question. I normally thank people in my reply posts and have never actually clicked on that "Thanks" button, is this makes me rude?

Re: Thanked Posts
No, there is no need to use it if you don't want to.

Re: Thanked Posts
I don't understand what you mean.
You give thanks when you want to thank someone.
You get it when you deserve.
I actually think it' sthe best system I've used on a forum. Look at the xbox forums for example. CUL, it's just a mess to distinguish the helpful people from the idiots. It also encourages people to post crap. As does post count, another thing I'm not a big fan of.
This thanks system is good because it depends on the members to decided who's helpful and who's not. It's not perfect sure and there are some exceptions, but overall I think it's a good system.

Re: Thanked Posts
Yeah sure but some people give thanks to people for being funny etc, some people give them out because they thank anyone who replies in a way to their question etc.
I just wondered what criteria people go by when giving thanks out, some people don't thank much, some people do more than others... etc.

Re: Thanked Posts
Well, look at my score. I have at least two times more thanked than thanks. Does this mean I'm:
a) a comedian who also appreciates the odd joke others tell as well
b) a very helpful person, who rarely needs advice himself or
c) an ungrateful wretch that people are sycophantic to only because I'm a Mod.
d) a really, really nice guy
You can't tell just from the thanks. Oh, and that wasn't an invite to vote on the possibilities people
Dave

Aw ok, well I give out thanks when I feel it's necessary. Like if someone helps me in some way.
Like I wouldn't buy something from a bargain thread and not thank the OP.
Really helpful, informative or funny posts may deserve them too.
