Where is a good place to buy a good warm fleece that's not really "bulky" and not overly expensive.
Looking at getting one for my Dad for christmas as he's starting to feel the cold a bit more these days and being unable to drive due to eyesight often walks to the shop in the village and sometimes walks to the next town.
looking for something up to £100, but obviously £30-60 would be an ideal price range.
Not really looked at this kind of item before so I don't know what to look for or what brands are good.
I was thinking of going to The Outdoor Shop on the way home from work and having a look there.
anyone have any other shop suggestions or online retailers?
Thanks!

How about a Bench fleece from here - M & M Direct or a Berghaus
I've used them loads of times and never had a problem.
HTH,
Mike

HTH,
Mike | Ahh yeah Berghaus, I think there is or was one of their stores in the Milton Keynes Centre.
The one with the hood is probably best, seeing as he doesnt have much hair to keep his head warm

Not entirely sure what you are looking for in a fleece.
My understanding is similar to that of the last poster. I have a Berghaus, but for winter this is really part of a layered clothing.
Base (your shirt), Mid (fleece), and then shell (nylon\gortex jacket).
In fact some of these fleeces and shells are interactive in that they will zip together so that the fleece forms a lining.
But where I coming from is that I would not consider one of these fleeces to be a jacket for winter use. It would be similar to walking down to the shops in a pullover. I use mine on its own on dry spring\summer\autumn nights instead of a jacket to keep the chill out.
I suspect you want a fleece lined jacket (a waterproof\windproof outer with a fleece inner).
In which case I'd look at the following
M&S
BHS
Peter Storm (Millets)
Regatta
You will probable find the likes of Berghaus, The North Face, Sprayway out of your budget.
Another good store is Go Outdoors but there are not that many in the UK so your nearest may be too far away.
Cheers,
Nigel

Cheers Nigel, that's a top post there, I didn't really take into consideration about the wet conditions which with a fleece... yeah I see why now, i'll have a look at the price of the 2 part ones when I go into town, I assume there are reversable ones also... he has a couple of waterproof jackets, so im sure he can just put them over a fleece if he uses it like a jumper.

If it's any use, I was in a TK-Maxx last week, and they had lots of choice of fleece jackets, reversible ones too, and some 2-part ones as described by Nigel above (first time I'd come across them too). Prices were around the £30 to £50, and were mainly Regatta.

I really like the look of this one Berghaus Polarplus Interactive Mens Jacket - £63.00 - from GO Outdoors.co.uk
Is there any reason to go for a different one around the same price or cheaper?
Reading about it, sounds just ideal to me. Quote:

I second the lined wind-stopper fleeces, SprayWay do some nice ones.
I also agree it may be worth considering a fleece with an 'IA' zip so it can be zipped inside a water/wind proof outer at a later date. This is not essential as the outer can simply be worn on top of the fleece.
