Thanks: Gave 30, Got 128 | What "Celebrity" is switching your town's lights on this year?
This year, Belfast is almost scraping the bottom of the barrel for it's Christmas Lights ceremony. Apart from the splendid Paralympics Gold Medallist Michael McKillop and Olympic Silver Medalist Wendy Houvenaghel, we have:
Olympic dummy-spitter and "I-don't-want-my-Bronze-Medal"list, Paddy Barnes
Hollyoaks actor Gerard McCarthy
Scooby Doo(?)
And last, but by every means least, last year's XFactor finalist and out-and-out weirdoes, Same Difference.
Can you top that for mediocrity?

Our lights have already been switched on and it was someone called Chico - I've never heard of him (or her) !

Ours are being switched on this Friday but the council website gives no clue to who might be doing it. My guess is that it will be somebody very cheap as all of the council's pocket money is tied up in Icelandic banks

A few years ago, Bill Clinton was visiting Belfast as President of the US and he was asked to turn on the lights. But, Belfast Council being the progressive, forward thinking Council it is, was split on sectarian grounds with unionist councillors saying Clinton was too Nationalist-minded for their liking. So it was agreed there would be two switch-ons, one by Clinton and one by the Power Rangers. The mind boggles.

The council says they usually get a celebrity but this year they thought it would be good to get young people involved...
Or in other words "we're cheap *****".

Actually called 'Christmas Lights' as well.

Hi,
I think Nina, (actress Katrina Bryan) from "Nina And The Neurons" ain't that bad, really. Certainly in comparison to The Krankies....
Sadly, no one at all remotely famous, is turning our local Chrimbo lights on.
